St. Louis Cardinals OF David Freese struck out three times Sunday, April 29, against the Milwaukee Brewers, and his 22 whiffs in 75 at-bats put him on a pace for 162 this season. Freese's at-bat-to-strikeout ratio is 3.41. Only Tyler Greene (2.69) and Daniel Descalso (3.33) strike out more frequently. "I get frustrated with the strikeouts because you can't do much if you don't put the ball in play," said Freese.

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Daniel Descalso and SS Tyler Greene have shown enough during spring training that manager Mike Matheny will use them to split second base duties. Matheny said this is not a platoon situation, but he described the plan in which he'd go game-by-game in deciding who to put in the lineup. "I still don't see it black and white," Matheny said. "I still see that there are a lot of things that are going to go into the equation. They've both proven that they're capable."

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said SS Rafael Furcal is having trouble finding a higher gear in his game. Furcal admitted his conditioning was lacking due to an offseason appendectomy that slowed his ability to work out and limited his core strength. Matheny is also considering 2B Tyler Greene and IF Daniel Descalso at the leadoff spot.
