Sat, 26 May 2012 13:13:38 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek pitched two-thirds of an inning against the San Francisco Giants Friday, May 25, to pick up his first save of the season.
Thu, 10 May 2012 05:26:29 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek blew the save Wednesday, May 9. He allowed a run on two hits and a walk in an inning of work.
Sat, 05 May 2012 19:19:37 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen is leaning toward RP Steve Cishek as his closer after RP Heath Bell blew yet another save Friday, May 4. "We're going to move (Bell) down, maybe for a few days, to get him back on track," Guillen said. Cishek worked three innings Friday, so he won't be available until at least Tuesday, May 8. Fantasy Tip: Miami's financial investment will trump all, which is why this is a temporary arrangement for Bell and the bullpen for the Fish. Coming into the season, though, Bell's dominance was on the decline, and his lack of command has left him extremely vulnerable in the early going. He'll probably never be the same elite closer he was in SD, but he shouldn't be dropped. Cishek is the obvious addition for now and in case Bell struggles over long stretches down the road. It looks as though Guillen prefers to leave Edward Mujica in the setup role, so he's only worth a look in NL-only setups in case the bullpen completely blows up. For those extremely desperate for a save, Ryan Webb and Randy Choate could be pressed into service until Cishek is ready Tuesday, with the former a better exremely short-term option. In most cases these two aren't even worth it.
Sat, 05 May 2012 12:06:36 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek (4-0) allowed one hit over three scoreless innings in a victory over the San Diego Padres Friday, May 4, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Thu, 03 May 2012 12:23:01 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said he's not ready to remove RP Heath Bell from the closer's role, but neither Bell nor RP Steve Cishek will be available to pitch Thursday, May 3. "Like I said before, we are a better team with Bell as closer. No doubt. That's what I want," Guillen said. "Everything (can) go perfect with this man as the closer. That's why I'm not going to unplug that (expletive) yet. It's too early. If you do that maybe they lose confidence…"
Thu, 03 May 2012 12:05:24 -0700 Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen prefers to give RPs Heath Bell and Steve Cishek a break Thursday, May 3, as they've had heavy workloads recently. RPs Edward Mujica or Ryan Webb will close if a situation arises Thursday.
Thu, 03 May 2012 09:15:23 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Heath Bell was pulled in the ninth inning against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 2, when he failed to record an out. RP Steve Cishek pitched the final two innings and was credited with the win. Manager Ozzie Guillen did not say if he will stick with Bell in save situations in the future. "Cishek did a tremendous job to go out there and stop that bleeding and come back and save the game," Guillen said. "It was nice to see. My job is to win games. I'm going to put the best guy we think is doing the job there. This is a tough call to any position because we spend a lot of money on this kid (Bell). I've got to put my best guy out there, and right now he's not our best guy. We got to wait to see."
Wed, 22 Feb 2012 17:20:13 -0800 Miami Marlins RPs Jose Ceda and Steve Cishek might be bullpen candidates for the opening day roster if RP Juan Carlos Oviedo is unable to clear up his immigration issues and/or he is cleared and then suspended by Major League Baseball.
Mon, 29 Aug 2011 10:50:09 -0700 Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon hinted that RP Leo Nunez may be used in a save situation Monday, Aug. 29, after going just 3-for-6 in save chances this month. Nunez hasn't pitched in the ninth since giving up four runs Tuesday, Aug. 23. RP Steve Cishek has performed well during Nunez's slump, and McKeon wanted to give Cishek a look in pressure situations. "The kid did a good job the other night coming in and getting the save," McKeon said. "Hey, if I can keep building his confidence up and he keeps getting saves, he's going sit well for the future of this organization."
Fri, 26 Aug 2011 20:39:13 -0700 Florida Marlins RP Leo Nunez is not dealing with an injury, and manager Jack McKeon reiterated that Nunez is still the team's closer. However, he was given the night off Friday, Aug. 26. RP Steve Cishek nailed down his third save in Nunez's absence.
