Marlins | New manager turning to A.J. Ramos

Mon, 18 May 2015 13:21:53 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos will serve as the closer while RP Steve Cishek works out his kinks, according to manager Dan Jennings.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos was the lead candidate under the old regime, but fantasy owners can feel a little more secure about their Ramos shares now that Jennings has confirmed Ramos will receive save opportunities. Ramos should be owned in all formats. He recorded his first save Wednesday, May 13, and currently sports a 0.95 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP and a 11.4 K/9.

Marlins | Miami to mix and match in ninth

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:12:42 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek blew his second straight save against the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, May 11, and he's converted only three of his seven save chances in 2015, pushing his ERA up to 10.32 - 13 runs in 11 1/3 innings. As a result, manager Mike Redmond said the team will likely mix and match in the ninth inning, with RPs A.J. Ramos, Bryan Morris and Mike Dunn being options.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek will probably be demoted to pitch in lower-leverage situations, at least until he can get back on track. A.J. Ramos, who has a 1.06 ERA and 11.1 K/9 rate in 17 innings, should be your first choice off the waiver wire if you're looking for saves. Add Ramos immediately in all formats.

Marlins | Steve Cishek blows another save

Tue, 12 May 2015 04:43:55 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek suffered his fourth blown save in seven chances Monday, May 11, when he gave up a ninth-inning homer to Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke in a 5-3 loss.

Fantasy Tip: You may want to think about switching closers or at least dropping Cishek in some formats. The team has given no word whether it will yank Cishek from the role, but four blown saves in seven tries is never good.

Marlins | Steve Cishek confident he'll find it

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 10:13:09 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek said he's confident that his diminished velocity will improve as the season goes along. Cishek is averaging career-lows for a month with his sinker (89.4 miles per hour) and slider (79.0). His career averages are 82.2 for the slider and 92.0 with the sinker. "Typically I come into spring training with my arm slot a little bit higher and for some reason the past couple years it's been lower," Cishek said. "And when your arm slot is slower, you can't really generate as much (velocity.) That's kind of what I'm thinking."

Fantasy Tip: Cishek's comments make some sense, but he's still on a really short leash right now. A.J. Ramos is a good add for speculative owners.

Marlins | Steve Cishek rebounds with save

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 22:31:17 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek worked a scoreless ninth inning while allowing a walk with a strikeout Tuesday, April 28, against the New York Mets to nail down his second save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek blew his second save in three chance this season Monday, giving up three runs in the loss. Overall he has a terribly 9.82 ERA, so it will take a few more outings like this before fantasy owners can trust him again.

Marlins | Steve Cishek struggling

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 07:42:29 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek's velocity is down, and his slider just rolls, according to a scout. He blew his second save and allowed three runs in an inning of work Monday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek's seat is scalding hot right now. We'd lean towards picking up A.J. Ramos, who has a sparkling 0.73 ERA and 18 K's in 12 1/3 innings. Bryan Morris could figure into the equation, but he has issued five walks in 8 2/3 innings.

Marlins | Steve Cishek has rough outing

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 21:52:58 -0700

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek allowed two hits and four earned runs in just a third of an inning against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, April 7. Cishek also walked a batter.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek's first bad outing of 2015 came in a non-save situation with the Marlins down big Tuesday night. It shouldn't affect his status as the team's closer moving forward, but it also isn't a welcomed sight for his fantasy owners.

Marlins | Steve Cishek not expected to be traded

Sun, 27 Jul 2014 10:15:44 -0700

It appears unlikely that the Miami Marlins will trade CL Steve Cishek.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news not only for Miami fans but for fantasy owners who have Cishek, who would probably be moved into a setup role if he were traded to another team.

Marlins | Steve Cishek, Mike Dunn scouted

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:44:36 -0700

Miami Marlins RPs Steve Cishek and Mike Dunn are being observed by about 12 scouts at the Atlanta Braves' Turner Field during this series.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek, Miami's closer, has a very controllable contract, and the lefty Dunn has been an above-average performer for much of his career. Miami is on the precipice of contending for a playoff berth, so they might not be looking to sell, but fantasy players should prepare for any potential trade by referencing our Closer Depth Charts.
