The Seattle Post-Intelligencer's John Hickey reports Seattle Mariners C prospect Wei Wang (knee), who was competing for China in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and likely will be out into the 2009 season. Wang suffered the knee injury in a collision with USA player Matt LaPorta (Indians). The Mariners signed Wang, 29, as a nondrafted free agent out of China on June 20, 2007.

Ryan Divish, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Mariners have assigned C Wei Wang to Single-A High Desert.
