In the wake of the New York Mets signing OF Curtis Granderson, the team may redouble its efforts to deal either 1B Ike Davis or OF Lucas Duda. The team may find a shortstop on the trade market since not much is left on the free-agent side.

New York Mets 1B Ike Davis is likely to be traded this offseason, and he's generating much more interest from other teams than OF Lucas Duda. The Mets are just starting to exchange a set of names to acquire in any trade for Davis, so there is still plenty of work to be done. The Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies are interested.

Five or six teams are asking about the availability of New York Mets 1B Ike Davis and OF Lucas Duda, according to a team insider. New York prefers to trade Davis because his salary will be much higher than Duda's. Duda will be eligible for arbitration for the first time as a Super 2 player and could make less than $1 million next season. The Mets could decide to wait well into the offseason to trade either player.

The New York Mets likely will shop 1B Ike Davis and OF Lucas Duda this offseason to see if trading one can fill a hole at another position. If both remain with the team, Davis could be team's first baseman next season over Duda because Duda has an option left.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't expect 1B Ike Davis (oblique) to return to the team this season after receiving a cortisone injection in his right oblique Tuesday, Sept. 3. He said his farewells to his teammates during their team fantasy football draft Monday, Sept. 2. Davis is headed to Arizona to begin his offseason after an exam in New York. He hit only .205 this year with nine home runs and 33 RBIs and spent almost a month with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Fantasy Tip: Josh Satin or Lucas Duda will fill in at first base for the rest of the season. It's safe to drop Davis in all formats now.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired OF Marlon Byrd and C John Buck from the New York Mets in exchange for INF prospect Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later.
Fantasy Tip: This puts Byrd in a better lineup, where he should play regularly. This probably means the injury to Starling Marte (hand) is significant, but we'll update you as that comes along. Buck will back up Russell Martin and doesn't have mixed-league value. Expect Lucas Duda and a mishmash of other players to fill in for Byrd. Duda is the best option to acquire in mixed leagues, but it'll be messy.

The New York Mets have an uncertain future at first base entering the 2014 season. Although the team has Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, Josh Satin and Wilmer Flores available to play, speculation is the Mets may go outside the organization and find someone else to play first.
