"My hips were coming open a little bit too soon, and I think I was showing them the ball a little bit too early and it was taking away some of the life that I have on my fastball, because I wasn't staying behind it as long. Oakland Athletics RPs Ryan Cook and Sean Doolittle both recently discovered flaws with their pitching mechanics. Doolittle and pitching coach Curt Young recently saw that Doolittle's arm slot was lower, and he was slinging the ball toward the plate rather than achieving a nice downward angle with the ball. As a result, he lost some velocity and late motion on his heater. Doolittle hasn't given up a run in his last eight games after making a correction.
Cook lost the closer gig after a stretch of four blown saves and a 10.13 ERA in eight games. Doolittle noticed a flaw in Cook's delivery, but Cook didn't want to expand on the details. Since making a correction, Cook hasn't given up a run in his last six games.
