Athletics | Sean Doolittle nearing rehab stint

Fri, 01 May 2015 10:26:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) could go on a rehab assignment in the next week or so with a potential return later this month possible. Doolittle has also been working on grips for different pitches. "I'm using this time not only to get my shoulder better but to become a better pitcher," Doolittle said. "I've tried the split-change, slurves, you name it."

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle should factor into the closing equation soon after his return. Keep him stashed on your DL. Tyler Clippard's window could be in danger of closing - no pun intended.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws bullpen

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 11:16:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw fastballs and changeups in a 25-pitch bullpen session Thursday, April 30, and will throw another Sunday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Tyler Clippard has been a little shaky recently with his first blown save Sunday and a 1.44 WHIP. Doolittle could reclaim the closer role soon after returning.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws off mound

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 16:00:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw 21 pitches off a mound for the first time since his shoulder injury Tuesday, April 28. He could throw a couple more mound sessions before going on a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle appears to be very close to returning to the A's, and he'll attempt to regain the closing gig from Tyler Clippard, who blew his first save Monday night.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws Friday

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:21:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw 15 pitches Friday, April 24, and said he felt great while working on new grips with his changeup and slider. He will throw on flat ground again Saturday, April 25, and again Sunday, April 26, throwing 20-25 pitches. Doolittle could move to a mound after that.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to have a chance to regain the closer's role in Oakland when he returns to active duty, but Tyler Clippard, who has just one save so far in one chance, might have something to say about it. Both relievers are worth hanging onto in deep mixed and AL-only leagues once Doolittle is healthy.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle continues progressing

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:18:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw from up to 105 feet without pain Wednesday, April 15, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: While Doolittle is projected to return to the closer role, there is no guarantee that will be the case. Still, he is worth stashing in the majority of formats and is expected to return sometime around mid-May. Tyler Clippard hasn't had an opportunity to record a save in Doolittle's absence, but he is the current ninth-inning arm for Oakland.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle not close to returning

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 11:35:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said no official timetable has been established for CL Sean Doolittle (shoulder), who has yet to throw off a mound.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is hoping to return to action at the end of next month and is likely to reclaim the A's closing job when he is activated. He should be stashed in traditional fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to throw long toss

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 20:32:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will push his long toss program from 75 to 90 feet Wednesday, April 8, when he plays catch.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is likely at least a month away from returning. If available he is worth stashing away in weekly fantasy formats since he is likely to step back into the closer’s role once he is healthy. Expect him to be the full-time closer by Memorial Day at the latest.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws again

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 07:35:26 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw from 75 feet Monday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is inching his way back and should be stashed in traditional leagues because he's likely to be closing games in the next few weeks.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws Friday

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 14:49:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) played catch for the first time since being shut down with a shoulder strain in January Friday, March 27, and he said he's feeling good. He made 15 throws from 45 feet and 10 throws from 60 feet and was pain-free. Doolittle will play catch every other day and increase the distance of his throws. However, Doolittle won't return earlier than May.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to regain the closing role when he returns, but it's also entirely possible that Tyler Clippard keeps the job if he's performing well. Both relievers are worth drafting in deep mixed leagues, and it's preferable to handcuff them to each other.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle will throw Friday

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 14:48:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will play catch for the first time Friday, March 27, since being diagnosed with a slight rotator cuff tear in his left shoulder in February.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season, and Tyler Clippard will handle the ninth-inning duties in his absence. However, it isn't out of the question for Clippard to take the job and run with it. Both relievers are risky selections before the endgame of drafts in shallow leagues. In deep formats, both are suitable targets for saves. It is all speculation at this point how the bullpen roles will shake out when Doolittle returns, so the healthy arm with the job should be the priority.
