The Houston Astros announced Friday, Oct. 19, that they've hired John Mallee as their hitting coach. They also added Dave Trembley to their coaching staff. Dave Clark will return in an unspecified role and Doug Brocail will return as the pitching coach. Mallee was the hitting coach for the Miami Marlins.

Former Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley has landed the minor league field coordinator position with the Atlanta Braves, according to The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly. He is also expected to supervise the instruction of coaches and players throughout the Braves organization.

Baltimore Orioles CL Alfredo Simon (0-1) allowed four runs on three hits and one walk over one-third of an inning Saturday, May 15, in a loss against the Cleveland Indians, according to The Associated Press. It was also Simon's first blown save in six chances this season. Manager Dave Trembley said he and pitching coach Rick Kranitz would talk to Simon, presumably about pitch selection, although Trembley would not criticize Simon's decision to throw a splitter to OF Austin Kearns through the media. "I don't think that's the way to go, to come out publicly and give an answer one way or the other," Trembley said, referring to whether or not he disagreed with the pitch chosen. "I don't think that's the way to do it."

Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley said he is done making excuses for the lack of effort from his players, according to The Associated Press. "I've been in a position where I'm a really nice fella and I'll cover. I'll get questions point blank and I feel like I'm a damn presidential press secretary sometimes instead of telling it what it is. I have to smooth it over," Trembley said.
