Reds | Devin Mesoraco unlikely to be ready

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 08:50:24 -0700

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said C Devin Mesoraco (oblique) is unlikely to be ready for opening day next week. He took batting practice Thursday, March 27, and felt fine. C Neftali Soto could enter the season as the backup catcher if Mesoraco isn't ready.

Fantasy Tip: Brayan Pena will begin the season as the starting backstop with Mesoraco sidelined. Oblique injuries are tricky, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Mesoraco's injury linger a bit.

Reds | Might move Neftali Soto back to 3B

Wed, 27 Feb 2013 21:27:51 -0800

Cincinnati Reds 1B Neftali Soto is listed on the 40-man roster as a first baseman, but his path to the majors is unclear with 1B Joey Votto under contract until 2023. Soto is unlikely to see consistent playing time in Cincinnati at first base, so they might move him to third base where he played 96 minor league games in 2009 before moving across the diamond. "They're talking about it, because he came up a third baseman, then really improved as a first baseman," manager Dusty Baker said. "Those two positions are mirror images, plus he has a good throwing arm. So, he could play third base."
