Blue Jays | Two TOR relievers rehabbing at Buffalo

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:51:06 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RPs Brett Cecil (triceps) and Franklin Morales (shoulder) will continue their rehab assignments with Class AAA Buffalo, after both hurlers made appearances for Class A Dunedin Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Of the two southpaws, Cecil has the greater fantasy value at this point in AL-only fantasy leagues, because of his ability to contribute in the ERA and WHIP categories. Morales has experience as a starter but will likely be used as a reliever when he returns from the disabled list.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil throws off mound

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 22:01:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (triceps) was able to throw off a mound Monday, June 13, for the first time since hitting the 15-day disabled list May 15.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Cecil is a solid fantasy option in AL-only rotisserie leagues which use true middle relievers for help in the ERA and WHIP categories.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil has lat tear

Wed, 18 May 2016 15:15:44 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (lat) is likely to miss at least a month with a tear in his lat muscle that was discovered by an MRI exam earlier this week. Cecil was the Blue Jays' primary left-handed setup man. He was 0-5 with a 5.23 ERA in 16 games this year.

Fantasy Tip: It's definitely a blow to Toronto's bullpen, and Chad Girodo and Pat Venditte must pick up the slack in Cecil's absence. Because of Cecil's numbers this year, it's unlikely he was owned in many fantasy leagues.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil to the DL

Sun, 15 May 2016 17:22:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (triceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 15, after experiencing soreness in left triceps after pitching Saturday, May 14. In a corresponding move, RP Dustin Antolin was recalled from Class AAA Buffalo.

Fantasy Tip: With Cecil out of action for a bit, Drew Storen will likely continue to see any save chances that Roberto Osuna isn't available for.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil could return to action

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 17:12:34 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (calf) has not ruled out pitching again this year if the club reaches the World Series. He played catch and started doing calf raises Wednesday, Oct. 14. "Maybe it's putting the cart before the horse a little bit, but he's walking, he's moving around, he's keeping his arm loose, so there's a chance," pitching coach Pete Walker said.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil suffered a torn calf muscle during Game 2 of the ALDS and it was previously believed that he would be unavailable for the remainder of the postseason. He is the Jays' top set-up man and their primary left-handed reliever but possesses little fantasy value.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil done for postseason

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 11:21:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (calf) will miss the remainder of the postseason due to a torn left calf muscle. The injury will not require surgery and he should be able to fully recover by just resting.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil should be completely healthy by the time spring training rolls around. Ryan Tepera will replace Cecil on the Jays' postseason roster, with Aaron Loup likely to assume the role as Toronto's top left-handed reliever.

Blue Jays | Steve Delabar with a save

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:55:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Steve Delabar recorded his first save of the season in an extra-inning affair against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, June 24. He struck out two in his inning of work after RPs Roberto Osuna and Brett Cecil already worked scoreless outings.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna is likely to be the first option in save situations for the Jays after they demoted Cecil from the role yesterday, but with the game tied in the ninth, Osuna was used to keep the game knotted Wednesday. Delabar is worth an add for saves-hungry owners in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, though.
