The 33-year-old Faulk is bothered by troublesome knees and is not sure when he would be physically ready to play again. "It's all health-related," Faulk said. "I have my good days, and I have my bad days. I want to make sure I am ready. And right now I don't know if I'm ready. But I want to play again. I'm not saying I'm going to be the guy who had all those 2,000-yard-plus seasons, because I'm not. But I can still play the game; I know I can. The question is whether or not this knee will be good enough to allow me to." Faulk noted that he would only return to play if it is for the Rams, even with former head coach Mike Martz now in Detroit. "I love Mike," Faulk said, laughing, "I really do. But Mike doesn't own any team, does he? So that's the end of that."

If it feels good enough to where I can go out there and feel comfortable with what I can do, then fine. If not, I'm fine. I'm OK." Faulk spoke of his playing career in the past tense on several occasions, including when asked if he has come to grips with the fact that his career might be over. "I'm going to take the next two to three months and rehab this thing and see how it goes," Faulk said. If he decides on surgery, Faulk said it will be done "not just for football, but for life."
