The Arizona Cardinals, in their pursuit for a new starting quarterback, have had trade talks with the Denver Broncos about QB Kyle Orton and the Philadelphia Eagles about QB Kevin Kolb. They have also dipped into the free-agent market and are talking with the agents for free agent QBs Matt Hasselbeck (Seahawks) and Marc Bulger (Ravens). The Cardinals have Kolb and Orton rated closely and talent. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt cautioned signing or trading for a quarterback on Tuesday, July 26, may be unlikely because of the complicated process needing more time.

A Baltimore Ravens source said the team will not pursue tampering charges against the Arizona Cardinals because it would be difficult to find evidence to prove the Cardinals have an understanding with QB Marc Bulger to sign him. Bulger was the Ravens' backup quarterback last season. Even though Bulger will be an unrestricted free agent, he is technically on the Ravens until the new league year begins.

The Arizona Cardinals could have a new quarterback for the 2011 season by Monday, May 2. The team is expected to pursue Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent QB Marc Bulger. However, the team could also test the trade waters and make offers to the Philadelphia Eagles for QB Kevin Kolb, to the Denver Broncos for QB Kyle Orton or the Cincinnati Bengals for QB Carson Palmer. The Cardinals still could draft a quarterback in the second round of the NFL Draft with the No. 38 overall pick. However, the feeling inside the organization has been that head coach Ken Whisenhunt would prefer to rely on a veteran to run the offense.

Fitzgerald's first recommendation was Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb, whom the Eagles are believed to be listening to trade offers for. Fitzgerald also brought up Baltimore Ravens QB Marc Bulger, who will be a free agent this offseason. Fitzgerald is entering the final year of his contract with the team, and they want to keep him happy to better their chances of re-signing him to a long-term deal.
