Reds | Jordan Pacheco outrighted, takes free agency

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 04:19:59 -0700

Cincinnati Reds INF/C Jordan Pacheco was designated for assignment and later outrighted off the 40-man roster Wednesday, June 22. Pacheco later declined the outright assignment and took free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Reds needed help catching with Devin Mesoraco injured, Pacheco didn't play at all behind the plate. That says all you need to know about Pacheco's fantasy value. Stay away at this point.

Reds | Jose Peraza, J.J. Hoover coming up

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:03:11 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Jose Peraza and RP J.J. Hoover were recalled from Class AAA Louisville Tuesday, June 14. In corresponding moves, P Daniel Wright was optioned to Louisville and INF/C Jordan Pacheco (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder tendinitis.

Fantasy Tip: Peraza is a notable Reds second base prospect, but he didn't show well after being called up earlier this year. He'll get another chance, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play. He's worth a pickup in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for his speed, mainly. Hoover entered the year as the favorite to close, but his ghastly numbers (14.34 ERA, 2.34 WHIP, six homers allowed) got him demoted quickly. He's unlikely to pitch in high-leverage situations.

Reds | Eugenio Suarez sitting Monday

Mon, 23 May 2016 14:51:23 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez (rest) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. 3B Jordan Pacheco is in his place at third base and batting seventh opposite Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Suarez rarely gets a day off, making it all the more confusing that he'd be rested on this night of all, considering his success against left-handed pitching this year (.333 with four home runs in 42 at-bats). The Reds could really use that against the best southpaw in the game. In any event, Pacheco gets a rare start, but shouldn't even be considered for daily formats.

Reds | Jose Peraza, Jordan Pacheco starting

Mon, 16 May 2016 10:53:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Jose Peraza and C Jordan Pacheco are in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Monday, May 16. Peraza is starting in center field and is hitting seventh, while Pacheco is serving as the designated hitter and batting eighth in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson isn't a formidable opponent, so both Peraza and Pacheco are worth the speculative addition to daily lineups as sleeper picks. Peraza is more intriguing and has more upside because of his speed.

Reds | Joey Votto sitting out

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:25:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, with 2B Brandon Phillips moving up to the three-hole. 1B Jordan Pacheco is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: BP has a .333-5-9 line the last week. Digest that, and plug him in against Juan Nicasio today. Pacheco is hitting .241 without an RBI and isn't worth much consideration.

Reds | Four CIN regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:11:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton, 3B Eugenio Suarez, SS Zack Cozart and C Tucker Barnhart are out of the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra Sunday, May 8. OF Tyler Holt will lead off and play center field, INF Ivan De Jesus will bat second and play shortstop, INF Jordan Pacheco will play third base and bat seventh and C Ramon Cabrera will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Each of the four players filling in for the regulars who are resting should be viewed as nothing more than sources of desperation cap relief in daily fantasy contests.

Reds | Tucker Barnhart to play a lot

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:29:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Tucker Barnhart "will play a lot" with C Devin Mesoraco (shoulder) possibly out for the rest of the year with a torn labrum in his left shoulder, according to manager Bryan Price. C Ramon Cabrera will serve as the backup, and C/3B Jordan Pacheco is the third backstop if a need arises. Barnhart, a switch-hitter, has improved his offensive game and has been hitting the ball hard this year.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart has 14 hits in 47 at-bats (.298) this year after slashing .252/.324/.326 with three homers and 18 RBI in 242 at-bats in 2015. He's a second catcher option for those in two-catcher or NL-only leagues. He could be a decent short-term replacement if you own Mesoraco or d'Arnaud.

Reds | Eugenio Suarez, Devin Mesoraco out

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:06:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez and C Devin Mesoraco are not in the starting lineup Monday, April 18. C Jordan Pacheco is starting at third and hitting second, while C Tucker Barnhart is doing the catching and is batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Jordan Lyles.

Fantasy Tip: Pacheco has the more favorable lineup spot for daily play, but neither are anything more than low-end options for salary cap relief against Lyles Monday evening.
