Royals | Greg Holland has stiff neck

Tue, 19 May 2015 19:40:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland (neck) was held out of the game Tuesday, May 19, against the Cincinnati Reds, due to a stiff neck.

Fantasy Tip: Holland must be kept on season-long rosters regardless of whether he ends up on the disabled list. That's a worst-case scenario at this point, as the injury doesn't sound overly serious. The Royals will play it safe with one of the best closers in the game, and owners should expect a few more nights off.

Royals | Greg Holland could return next week

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:53:22 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland (pectoral) threw his first bullpen session Tuesday, April 28, since his pectoral injury. He could be ready by early next week, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Holland will immediately return to the closer role when he's ready. Wade Davis has been filling in lately in the ninth inning. He should remain owned in the majority of fantasy baseball leagues for his numbers in a setup role, though.

Royals | Greg Holland to be re-evaluated Saturday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 14:32:24 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland (pectoral) will be re-evaluated Saturday, April 25, to see if he can resume a throwing program.

Fantasy Tip: Holland's pectoral has a Grade 1 strain, which is the lowest grade, and the organization is optimistic he'll return in approximately two weeks. In Holland's absence, Wade Davis will look after the ninth inning, and Davis should be owned in all formats. Continue to check back for updates on Holland's recovery and return timeline.

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 14:08:17 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland's (pectoral) MRI revealed his pectoral has a Grade 1 strain. The organization is still optimistic he will be ready to return in two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Wade Davis, who should have been owned in the majority of leagues anyway, figures to see most save chances. He is a high-end reliever in the role, too. Continue to check back for updates on Holland's recovery and return timeline. He should be stashed in all leagues.

Royals | Greg Holland placed on disabled list

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 12:37:20 -0700

The Kansas City Royals have placed CL Greg Holland (pectoral) on the 15-day disabled list because of a right pectoral strain. In a corresponding move, P Yohan Pino has been called up from Triple-A Omaha.

Fantasy Tip: It is currently unknown if Holland will be sidelined for more than 15 days. RP Wade Davis is the most likely candidate to close games in Holland's absence, although RPs Kelvin Herrera, Jason Frasor and Ryan Madson all have prior closing experience.

Royals | Greg Holland wants to stay in KC

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 04:50:54 -0800

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland is still open to a long-term extension with the club.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has an $8.25 million salary for 2015 and is under team control for 2016, so the Royals aren't in a hurry to discuss extension talks. Still, Holland had a 1-3 record and 46 saves with a team that was borderline to go to the playoffs until late in the regular season. Holland is a top closer option for the upcoming year.
