The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints QB Jamie Martin returned to training camp in time Wednesday, Aug. 2, to participate in the afternoon practice. Martin was excused last week to be with his wife, who underwent an operation for breast cancer. Martin said his wife would move with him to New Orleans where she will continue her treatment during the regular season. Payton said it was good to have Martin back and that he is not concerned with Martin being behind after missing nearly six days of training camp. Payton added, "He's a pretty sharp guy. It will be a matter of a day or two. We had him in the offseason so the installation (of the new offense) to him will be familiar."

Martin's agent Tom Mills said the major obstacle against a deal with the Bengals is money. The Bengals are interested in putting more money towards their offensive lineman. The team talked again Monday, April 3, with his agent, Tom Mills. With the Miami Dolphins favored to engineer a trade with the Detroit Lions and sign QB Joey Harrington, the Bengals again are turning toward Martin. "If Harrington is gone, we'll move forward with it," said Mills. "The contract would still need to be negotiated, and there are some material issues. Jamie would just as well not play as play for the minimum."
