He had made 25 starts and pitched 161 1/3 innings in his first full season since returning from Tommy John surgery. The team wants to play it safe and cap his innings pitched.

Zimmermann will make at least two more starts, but if he's sitting at around 157 after the two starts, the team will either shut him down for the year or let him exceed the 160-inning limit. "I don't think it's cut in stone," Johnson said. "They don't want him starting if he has 160 innings. I haven't had anyone tell them they wouldn't want him starting if he had 157. I don't know."
