Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann throws from flat ground

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:05:27 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann (groin) threw from flat ground on the field Friday, May 27, and he will throw a bullpen session Sunday, May 29, before the organization will determine if a stint on the disabled list is required.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann is 7-2 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over nine starts, but like it has been for most of his career, he isn't striking out many batters with just 40 punchouts through 60 2/3 innings. If he avoids the DL, you shouldn't fret starting him in yearly leagues, but he is probably a little too risky for daily contests. Check back for the official word on what's next for Zimmermann.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann to throw Friday

Tue, 24 May 2016 15:07:14 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann (groin) plans to try some long toss Friday, May 27, and he could throw off a mound Sunday, May 29. After that, the Tigers will decide to either put him on the disabled list or start him against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann has been one of the better free-agent pitching acquisitions from last offseason. He's 7-2 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in nine starts. A lack of strikeouts (5.9 K/9) has been the knock on him, though, and regression could be in store as the summer months approach. However, if he avoids the DL and starts against the Angels, he'd be a fine play everywhere.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann has mild strain

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:45:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann (groin) was diagnosed with a Grade 1 groin strain, which is the mildest possible strain. He could avoid the disabled list but has been ruled out for his next start scheduled for Friday, May 27. Manager Brad Ausmus has been optimistic about Zimmermann's prognosis.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann has been a great free-agent acquisition for the Tigers with a 7-2 record and 2.52 ERA in nine starts. However, Zimmermann could be in line for some regression and is striking out only 5.9 hitters per nine innings, limiting his fantasy upside. Be careful running him out for his next start after he's skipped this Friday.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann likely out next turn

Mon, 23 May 2016 13:30:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann (groin) is not expected to make his next start against the Oakland Athletics, according to manager Brad Ausmus. After that Zimmermann will be listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Zimmermann can avoid a trip to the DL, but you'll need to plan for a short absence, and he might be a risky play when he makes his next turn in the rotation. Aside from allowing seven earned runs on May 16, he has allowed three earned runs or less in his other eight starts. He's a must-start option in all leagues when healthy, but his 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings leaves a lot to be desired moving forward.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann leaves with injury

Sun, 22 May 2016 12:24:15 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann (groin) departed in the sixth inning Sunday, May 22, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Zimmermann, who allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings, was diagnosed with a strained right groin.

Fantasy Tip: There is no way of telling at the moment whether or not Zimmermann will require a stint on the disabled list or not. The 29-year-old has predictably been unable to sustain his otherworldly opening month (5-0, 0.55 in April), although a 4.88 ERA in four May starts probably isn't exactly what owners were expecting either. Stay tuned for updates, although a date against the Oakland Athletics looks appealing next weekend if he can make the start.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann struggles in win

Mon, 16 May 2016 22:19:03 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann allowed eight runs on 11 hits in seven innings against the Minnesota Twins Monday, May 16, but was able to pick up his sixth win of the season. He struck out nine batters and did not walk any batters.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann allowed only eight earned runs in his previous seven starts but allowed seven earned runs Monday. He still has a 2.45 ERA and should be an attractive starting option since his next start is scheduled to be against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann solid vs. old team

Wed, 11 May 2016 20:08:03 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann allowed three earned runs, seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts over seven innings in a loss against the Washington Nationals, his former team, in a start Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann saw his ERA inch up slightly to 1.50, and three strikeouts paled in comparison to Max Scherzer's 20 on the other side. He was completely overshadowed in his return to D.C., and the loss is probably disappointing personally, but he has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option across all formats this season.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann aces AL test in April

Mon, 02 May 2016 11:54:45 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann went 5-0 with a 0.55 ERA and 23 strikeouts through 33 innings in April.

Fantasy Tip: Moving to the American League was expected to hurt Zimmermann's fantasy value, especially after his negative regression in 2015 (3.66 ERA and 3.75 FIP). It hasn't been the case, though, and besides the underwhelming strikeout numbers (6.3 K/9), Zimmermann has been an excellent fantasy option thus far. View him as a solid mid-rotation arm for your fantasy roster going forward.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann improves to 5-0

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:09:52 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann allowed a run on six hits and struck out seven over seven innings to beat the Minnesota Twins Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann's ERA actually rose to 0.55 to close out a brilliant April. He's pitching like an SP1 now and is a daily consideration whenever his turn comes up.

Tigers | Jordan Zimmermann looks to stay hot

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 23:56:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann is scheduled to start Saturday, April 30, against the Minnesota Twins. He has allowed just one run in four starts, including 24 1/3 innings to begin the year.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann is enjoying his crossover to the American League. He is a must-start in all fantasy formats and a solid option in DFS play, too.
