Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears OT Orlando Pace continues to contemplate retirement. Pace said, "It's still up in the air. I'm still feeling my way through this. I haven't talked to anyone in the organization about it yet. That probably should be happening in the next week or so."

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears OT Orlando Pace said he will consider retirement at the end of the season. "After the season I will re-evaluate and see how I feel, if it makes sense (to return in 2010), and if I even want to play," Pace said after practice Friday, Jan. 1. Pace has been moved to a backup role and returning as an insurance plan is something that might not interest him. "I miss playing. I'm a player. I've been playing for a while so this is an adjustment for me," Pace said. "That's why I said I really have to re-evaluate what I want to do as far as my career goes. It's just one of those things. I understand the situation."

Head coach Lovie Smith said, "We will put guys in positions we think gives us the best chance to win on the weekend." Smith said OT Chris Williams looked like a "natural" at left tackle.

Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams OT Orlando Pace (shoulder) aggravated his right shoulder during the team's last preseason game. "I did it when I was trying to make a tackle (after an interception). I landed on it pretty hard," Pace said Thursday, Aug. 21. "I didn't even think about it ... I didn't even feel the swelling until Monday, when I came in and I couldn't raise my arm too high. That was a little concern for me." Pace stressed that neither the rotator cuff nor the labrum were damaged. "That's one positive that came out of landing on it like that," Pace said. "At least you know the structure of the shoulder is back." Pace's status for the team's next preseason game is uncertain.

He noted if the team had a game this week, Pace would be available to play some snaps in it. However, he also noted that Pace is not at 100 percent healthy yet. "My feeling is he is going to be good to go for preseason and obviously the regular season," Linehan said.

Head coach Scott Linehan said, "Orlando is in great shape. He has really worked and has got himself in a good spot. It's a matter of what the docs say. I think they just want to see if he's ready to take that next step as far as contact. Not to be overly cautious, but he's had two bad-luck injuries two years in a row."
