Athletics | Khris Davis back in the lineup

Mon, 23 May 2016 17:56:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis (forearm) will serve as the designated hitter against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker Monday, May 23. 1B Max Muncy is not in the starting lineup, while OF Jake Smolinski will start at right field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is hitting .300 with four home runs and eight RBI over the last seven days but is a risky option because of the injury. Smolinski is hitting only .111 since joining Oakland and should be avoided in all leagues.

Athletics | Josh Reddick officially on DL

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:05:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 20. OF Jake Smolinski was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick was one of Oakland's more consistent and productive hitters (.322-5-18), so this is a big blow for them. You'll be forced to stash him everywhere, but he's likely to miss four to six weeks. This injury assures that Coco Crisp will continue seeing regular starts, but his power and speed numbers are down, and he's a mediocre outfielder in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Chris Coghlan should remain relevant in those same formats and could steal time from Crisp once Jed Lowrie returns to play second base.

Athletics | Coco Crisp expected to start in LF

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 16:28:47 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is expected to start in left field for the A's in 2016, if he's healthy. However, the 36-year-old played in just 44 games last year because of neck issues. 1B Mark Canha will see time at first base, but he, along with OFs Sam Fuld, Jake Smolinski and Andrew Lambo can fill in in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Canha gives fantasy owners the most to like of this group after drilling 16 home runs and driving in 70 RBI in 2015. How many games can you realistically expect Crisp to play given his age and injury concerns? There's a good chance he becomes a bench player even if he's healthy.

Athletics | Jake Smolinski playing left field

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 11:10:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Jake Smolinski will bat seventh and start in left field against Texas Rangers SP Chi Chi Gonzalez Sunday, Sept. 13. OF/1B Mark Canha, who started in left field Saturday, Sept. 12, will bat second and play first base Sunday, with 1B Max Muncy getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is only 2-for-21 at the plate this month and using him in FantasyScore would not be advised this afternoon. On the other hand, Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is batting .320 with three home runs and eight RBIs over the past week and merits consideration as a value play.

Athletics | Coco Crisp is starting in left field

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 16:27:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is starting in left field and batting sixth against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, Sept. 9. OF Jake Smolinski is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been a disaster this season with a .475 OPS. He should be viewed as a desperation start in all fantasy formats Wednesday, including FantasyScore. Smolinski ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has flashed some upside, but he is riding an active 7-for-40 stretch with a .464 OPS. Neither player warrant ownership in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Athletics | Mark Canha playing left field

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 12:17:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B/OF Mark Canha will bat second and play left field against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Sunday, Sept. 6. OF Jake Smolinski, who played left field Saturday, Sept. 5, will play right field and bat seventh Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is just 5-for-25 at the plate over the past week. Better options can be found in FantasyScore for a lower price.

Athletics | Josh Reddick resting vs. lefty

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:44:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the lineup against Seattle Mariners left-handed SP Edgar Olmos Friday, Sept. 4. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in right field and is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) doesn't stand out for daily gamers on FantasyScore, even against a pitcher making just his second start of the season in Olmos.

Athletics | Jake Smolinski hitting in five-hole

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:57:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Jake Smolinski is batting fifth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Monday, Aug. 31. OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has been receiving starts against lefties lately, but he doesn't boast outstanding numbers with a .237/.338/.390 slash line against southpaws. He is a risky FantasyScore play Monday. Crisp ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) remains a low-end option in all fantasy formats, and you can do better in the majority of seasonal leagues. After all, he currently sports a .154/.235/.202 line.

Athletics | Coco Crisp sitting vs. Arizona

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:23:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 28. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in left field and batting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Crisp ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He currently cannot be started with confidence in any format, either, as Crisp owns a .152/.236/.202 slash line for the season. Smolinski ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has been solid for Oakland with a .946 OPS through 35 at-bats, but it is a small sample size, and he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Friday.
