The Tampa Bay Rays have optioned SP Alex Cobb to Triple-A Durham. In a corresponding move, the team has recalled P Brandon Gomes from Durham.

The Tampa Bay Rays assigned RP Brandon Gomes to minor league camp Wednesday, March 28, meaning RP Burke Badenhop has won a spot in the bullpen. C Chris Gimenez was also re-assigned.

Tampa Bay Rays RPs Brandon Gomes (back) and Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) will both pitch live batting practice Thursday, March 8. Gomes had offseason back surgery and Farnsworth ended last year with a tender elbow.

Tampa Bay Rays OFs Sam Fuld (wrist) and Luke Scott (shoulder) will likely make their spring debuts later this week. Fuld took batting practice Monday, March 5, and is likely to do so again Thursday, March 8. RP Brandon Gomes (back) threw live batting practice Monday and felt good.

Tampa Bay Ray RP Brandon Gomes (back) threw his first bullpen session Tuesday, Feb. 21, since back surgery. Gomes said he has been progressing well.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Brandon Gomes (back) will be limited at the start of spring training due to surgery that he had last November to fix a disc in his back. However, he's still confident he will be ready to pitch on opening day April 6. Gomes hasn't thrown off a mound and is unlikely to join the other pitchers in the first week or two of bullpen sessions.
