Athletics | Josh Phegley draws into lineup

Tue, 03 May 2016 15:40:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and is hitting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Tuesday, May 3. OF Coco Crisp will start on the bench. C Stephen Vogt is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: You could certainly do worst than Phegley if you're looking for low-priced catching options in DFS action, but keep in mind the A's backup catcher hit only .220 with four of his nine home runs against right-handers in 2015.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt resting Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 09:53:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Chris Devenski Saturday, April 30. C Josh Phegley will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is receiving the start because the A's are playing a day game following a night game. He has eight hits through his first 23 at-bats (.348) this year and is worth considering as a productive means of salary cap relief in daily fantasy contests. Expect Vogt to return to action Sunday, May 1.

Athletics | Billy Burns, Stephen Vogt out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:53:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Coco Crisp is in center field and hitting leadoff, C Josh Phegley is catching and batting eighth, while 1B Billy Butler is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is barely hitting over .200 in 54 at-bats this year, so he remains a low-end outfield consideration for DFS despite hitting atop the lineup. Phegley hit just .220 with four home runs against righties last year and isn't all that attractive, either. Butler is in there because he sports a .405 average (34-for-84) with two home runs and 15 RBI against Verlander in his career. He's a sneaky under-the-radar value play tonight.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt receives day off

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 08:25:43 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, April 23. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley has picked up six hits in his 16 at-bats this month and could be a starting option in some daily fantasy leagues. He may not be the best option in most mixed leagues.

Athletics | Three hits for Stephen Vogt

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 20:22:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in an 8-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt has his average up above .300, and while he should be avoided against most lefties, he is a serviceable starting option in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues.

Athletics | Josh Phegley catching Saturday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:42:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley is batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young Saturday, April 16. C/1B Stephen Vogt remains in the lineup as the designated hitter and will bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is 4-for-12 with a double this year and should be viewed as nothing more than an inexpensive flier option in daily fantasy contests.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt hits a home run

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 06:36:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 with one home run and one RBI against the Kansas City Royals Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt has been a bit inconsistent at the plate during the first few weeks of the season but is still hitting .273. Vogt should be a starter in most deep leagues and two-catcher leagues even though he has only two RBI so far.

Athletics | Three A's regulars sitting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 15:19:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are all out of the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, April 12. OF Billy Burns returns to center and is leading off, C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting second and OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Burns' value has taken a slight hit with Crisp healthy and playing often, but he remains relevant in all leagues for his speed. Get him back into your lineups. Phegley and Canha excel against lefties and are worth value plays in daily contests, with Phegley much more attractive.

Athletics | Josh Reddick, Stephen Vogt sitting

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:18:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick and C Stephen Vogt are not in the lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Carlos Rodon Wednesday, April 6. OF Mark Canha is starting in right field and hitting seventh, while C Josh Phegley is catching and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Canha and Phegley are specialists against left-handed pitching, but both are just mildly intriguing in daily games tonight against the up-and-coming Rodon.

Athletics | Billy Burns, Stephen Vogt out

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 14:39:55 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns and C Stephen Vogt are sitting against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Jose Quintana Tuesday, April 5. OF Coco Crisp is starting in center field and hitting leadoff, while C Josh Phegley draws the start behind the plate and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Act accordingly for Burns and Vogt in traditional leagues Tuesday. Crisp is nearing the end of his career and shouldn't be an option outside of depth in cavernous mixed and AL leagues. Phegley is a decent second catcher, and he hit .276 with five of his nine homers against lefties in 2015. Consider him as a cheap option in daily formats.
