Athletics | Stephen Vogt placed on family leave list

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 13:17:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics C/1B Stephen Vogt (personal) was placed on the family emergency medical leave list on Saturday, July 23. Oakland also transferred RP Fernando Rodriguez (lat) to the 60-day disabled list to clear room on the 40-man roster for C Bruce Maxwell, who was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt will have to miss at least three days and no more than seven, meaning Maxwell and Matt McBride will likely share catching duties in the interim. Maxwell's stay figures to be brief since he has a left-handed bat just like Vogt, although the up-and-coming 25-year-old is slashing .321/.393/.539 with 10 homers with 41 RBI in 60 games with the Sounds.

Athletics | Oakland resting three players

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:48:01 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, July 19. 3B Danny Valencia will start at first base and is batting third. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting only .214 over the last seven days but should still be a decent starting candidate. Butler is hitting .250 this month and can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. McBride is hitting under .200 this season and should be avoided in most leagues.

Athletics | Oakland resting three starters

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 11:23:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Sunday, July 17. 3B Danny Valencia will start at first base and is batting fourth. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting only .162 this month but should still be a decent fantasy option because of the numbers he has posted so far this season. Butler has at least one hit in five of the last seven games and has two RBI during that span. He should be a decent sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. McBride has not done much since being recalled and can be avoided in most leagues.

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 23:07:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt is hitting well in July: 11-for-27 (.408) with two home runs, six runs scored and six RBI. He's a productive backstop and fringe fantasy starter in standard leagues.

Athletics | Oakland resting three players

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 09:59:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, C Stephen Vogt and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Sunday, July 10. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting seventh, while C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has at least one hit in four of his last six games and has two RBI during that span. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use. Smolinski has cooled off this month and probably should be avoided. McBride has not done much since being recalled from the minor leagues and should not be used by owners.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has been playing better lately and is hitting .333 with one home run and 10 RBI against left-handed pitchers. He should be a decent option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Smolinski can be a sleeper option for owners because he is hitting .429 with one home run and four RBI over the last seven days. McBride is hitting .250 since being recalled from the minor leagues but is not a strong fantasy option.

Athletics | Josh Phegley likely headed for DL

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 22:07:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley (knee) is dealing with knee discomfort and he is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list, according to sources. He had a cortisone shot for a sore right knee in mid-May and had been feeling good, but it started acting up again Saturday, July 2. The team is likely to recall C Matt McBride to help back up C Stephen Vogt.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is hitting .256 with a homer and 10 RBIs, and is only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in deeper AL-only fantasy formats when healthy.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Stephen Vogt out

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:32:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jeff Locke Friday, July 1. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in center field and is hitting seventh, while C Josh Phegley is catching and batting eighth. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves into the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp and Vogt are sitting the bench with a left-hander on the mound. Smolinski and Phegley have some success against right-handers and can be considered as sleeper options in daily games, but their placement near the bottom of the order limits their upside.

Athletics | Josh Reddick, Stephen Vogt out

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 15:02:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, June 30. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in right field and hitting sixth, while C Josh Phegley draws the start behind the dish and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are resting their sluggers in the tough lefty-lefty matchup tonight. Against MadBum, Neither Smolinski nor Phegley will be popular DFS targets as sleepers.
