Athletics | Stephen Vogt launches a pair

Sun, 03 May 2015 16:45:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBIs, two runs scored and two walks in a 7-1 win over the Texas Rangers Sunday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is up to six home runs and 20 RBIs on the year, and although he usually sits against lefties, he is a strong option at FantasyScore whenever he faces right-handed pitcher.

Athletics | Josh Phegley replaces Stephen Vogt

Sat, 02 May 2015 15:40:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley replaces C Stephen Vogt in the starting lineup Saturday, May 2, against the Texas Rangers. Phegley will hit eighth in the order against Rangers SP Nick Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has one run scored and one RBI through 23 plate appearances so far in 2015. Phegley is a .190-hitter off righties for his career, and he should be avoided by all FantasyScore owners.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting Thursday

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:29:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is out of the lineup Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of your cap) is in his place, but he warrants no FantasyScore consideration.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting vs. southpaw

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:04:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is not in the starting lineup against the Houston Astros Friday, April 24. C Josh Phegley is starting behind the plate and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a consistent platoon based on handedness, as Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is a left-handed batter and Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a righty. Although, it is interesting to see Vogt sitting because he is hitting .450 with three home runs over his past six games. Phegley has gone 5-for-10 against southpaws this season, but opposing pitcher Dallas Keuchel has been next to unhittable through his first three starts. Phegley is nothing more than a flier for daily contests Friday.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt hitting third

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 16:02:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is starting at first base and hitting third in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, April 21. C Josh Phegley receives the nod behind the plate and is batting seventh in the order. 1B Ike Davis is sitting the bench against the lefty starter.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting well to begin the year, going 15-for-41 (.366) with four home runs and 12 RBI. However, tonight might be the best time to avoid him right now, as he hit just .205 with one of his nine homers against southpaws in 2014, and Santiago historically has been tough on the A's. Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) doesn't have much experience with lefties in his young major league career, but he figures to be a solid value play at catcher against a southpaw this evening.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt homers twice

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 06:51:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI against the Kansas City Royals Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is off to a solid start at the plate with seven hits in his last five games. Vogt could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt says he's fine

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 14:16:00 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (ankle) said he is fine after injuring his left ankle, and he'll use a protective guard on his right shoe to help his surgically repaired right foot.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is in the starting lineup for the A's and is a nice sleeper catching option at FantasyScore going against Houston Astros starter Brad Peacock Tuesday night.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt injures ankle

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 20:55:51 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (ankle) turned his ankle in the game Monday, April 13, against the Houston Astros. He said he will be re-evaluated Tuesday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Phegley ($1,800; 3.6% of cap) could draw a start or two if Vogt is forced to the shelf. FantasyScore owners looking to save a ton of salary might want to circle back around Tuesday to see if Phegley is indeed in the starting nine.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt to wear plate

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 12:46:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (foot) has told media he feels 100 percent, but as a precaution he plans to wear a metal plate in his shoe until at least July.

Fantasy Tip: As a previous post suggests, Vogt will have some fantasy value if he is the starting catcher. If that changes, then the at-bats likely go down. Spend a late-round pick on Vogt if you need help.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt caught three innings

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 16:40:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (foot) caught his first three innings of camp Monday, March 9, since undergoing right foot surgery. Vogt reported no discomfort.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt has unique eligibility at catcher, first base and outfield in most leagues. He's listed as the starting catcher on the A's official website, but that could change. If Vogt is relegated to backup catcher duties, then his at-bats will be in danger. As a result of the uncertainty, he's a late-round mixed league flier.
