Duncan opted against surgery to re-attach the muscle, which would have ended his 2004 season. "Jamie could miss the first [regular season] game, the second game," Falcons head coach Jim Mora said. "He might be back [sooner]."

By doing so, the Rams would have saved an additional $1.2 million in salary cap room in 2004. However, the $1.2 million would have been charged against the 2005 cap. Instead, by releasing Duncan early, the team saves only $100,000 on the cap - his $1.9 million in base salary and workout money due this season, minus $1.8 million in signing bonuses.
