R.B. Fallstrom reports for the Associated Press the St. Louis Rams have released S Matt Bowen and RB Larry Bowie from the injured-reserve list. Bowen suffered a broken foot in the season's first game and Bowie suffered a torn knee ligament against the Chiefs in the pre-season.

The Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams FB Larry Bowie suffered a knee injury after catching a pass late in the pre-season game Friday night. He suffered a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament, which will require eight weeks to heal. Bowie's roster spot was not locked down, and with cuts coming later today Bowie will likely receive an injury settlement. Starting SS Adam Archuleta (hamstring) is expected to be ready to go next Sunday. Starting LB Mark Fields (thigh) and S Kim Herring (hamstring) sat out against the Chiefs but should play against the Eagles. DE Leonard Little broke a finger against the Chiefs, but coach Mike Martz said he should be OK to play next weekend.

Jim Thomas reports for the Post-Dispatch several St. Louis Rams players returned to practice on Friday. FB Larry Bowie (toe), TE Ernie Conwell (knee), DE Leonard Little (knee), DE Sean Moran (back), and G Tom Nutten (ankle) were all at practice on Friday. Most of those players are expected to play on Saturday, except for possibly Conwell. CB Jacoby Shepherd rested his hamstring once again, and it probably will be a game-day decision on whether he plays in Buffalo.

The Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams C Frank Garcia (wrist) returned to practice on Thursday. Starting LG Tom Nutten remained out with a twisted ankle, but he is expected to return Friday. Others missing practice with injuries were FB Larry Bowie (toe), CB Jacoby Shepherd (hamstring), DE Sean Moran (back) and WR Darrius Blevins (knee). Blevins has a bone bruise. Coach Mike Martz said he expects backup S Rich Coady back by next week, then starting FS Kim Herring the following week. Both are recovering from hamstring injuries.

The Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Rams have released RB Ron Janes and OL Pete Swanson. The addition of FB Larry Bowie cost Janes any chance at making the team. Swanson suffered a back injury in May and wasn't sure if his agent, Bruce Tollner, would seek any kind of injury settlement from the Rams. Tollner could not be reached for comment Sunday.

As an update to this morning's story, the Associated Press reports the St. Louis Rams have signed free agent FB Larry Bowie. Coach Mike Martz expects him to challenge James Hodgins for the starting job at fullback. Bowie played for the Redskins when Martz was in Washington.

The Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Rams worked out free agent FB Larry Bowie on Friday. He then stuck around to watch both practices. Rams officials said they were trying to sign him, and to have him on the field Saturday.

According to their official site, the New England Patriots have signed free agent FB Larry Bowie, formerly of the Washington Redskins. No terms of the contract were released.

The Boston Globe reports the New England Patriots had free agents RB Larry Bowie and DT Chuck Osborne in town this week for workouts. The team's top operationg officer, Andy Wasynczuk, is also continuing to try and work out deals to sign some of the team's top players before they're able to become free agents at the end of the season. DL Chad Eaton remains the biggest name other than QB Drew Bledsoe that the team wants to work out a new deal with. LB Ted Johnson is likely to have his deal restructured, too.
