Marlins | Derek Dietrich out vs. Pirates

Mon, 30 May 2016 13:53:00 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich (head) passed concussion tests but is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 30. 2B Miguel Rojas is starting at second base and batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Monday.

Fantasy Tip: With Dee Gordon out of the way, Dietrich has become a viable fantasy option at the keystone and has a .344/.430/.500 slash line with 14 RBI in May. It appears Dietrich has avoided a serious injury, too, so expect him back in the lineup soon. Rojas is a desperation start in all fantasy formats Monday.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich injured

Mon, 30 May 2016 00:18:07 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich (head) was hit in the back of a head by a ricocheting foul ball Sunday, May 29, in a 7-3 win over the Atlanta Braves. X-rays were negative, and Dietrich remained in Atlanta for observation. Dietrich had homered and driven in four runs prior to the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich, who improved to .325/.416/.524 with his three-hit day, looks like he will be all right, but you may want to monitor the situation. At first glance, it looks like Dietrich will be safe to go in weekly and annual leagues, although there is always the chance Dietrich could miss a day and be a risk in DFS formats.

Marlins | Justin Bour, Derek Dietrich out vs. lefty

Mon, 23 May 2016 12:26:27 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Justin Bour and 2B Derek Dietrich are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Matt Moore Monday, May 23. 1B Chris Johnson is at first base and is hitting sixth, while SS Miguel Rojas starts at the keystone and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is batting .382 (21-for-55) and has been successful against lefties, but he's also not much of a threat to leave the yard. Regardless, he could be considered a deep sleeper tonight. Rojas is a light-hitting middle infielder that makes for a desperation play.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto leading off vs. Nats

Fri, 13 May 2016 13:30:55 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is leading off against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Friday, May 13. 2B Derek Dietrich is not in the starting lineup, and SS Miguel Rojas is starting at second base and batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto is off to a solid start with a .302 batting average, 12 runs and 11 RBI for the season. Hitting atop the lineup is a nice boost for his fantasy value Friday, and he is a viable option in daily contests. Dietrich will likely continue to hit leadoff when facing a right-handed pitcher, and he is a potential add in deep mixed leagues. Rojas is a fantasy afterthought.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich extends hit streak

Wed, 11 May 2016 20:06:17 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich went 1-for-4 Wednesday, May 11, against the Milwaukee Brewers to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich is hitting .357 (10-for-28) during his impressive seven-game run, and his slugging percentage is over .500. He is worth using in DFS play at a low-price, and is a solid NL-only fantasy option while running hot. He has never faced Friday's start Gio Gonzalez of the Washington Nationals, but is 3-for-9 (.333) with a triple and RBI against left-handed pitching this season, for what it's worth.

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:47:05 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich went 1-for-5 with a strikeout Tuesday, May 10, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: The stat line wasn't impressive, but he has hit safely in six in a row. He is 9-for-24 (.375) during the impressive span to make him a strong DFS option at a low price.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich leading off vs. Brewers

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:07:51 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich is leading off against Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: With Dee Gordon serving his suspension, Dietrich has seen a substantial boost in playing time. Dietrich has also hit atop the lineup in two of the past three games, which makes him a viable option in deep mixed leagues and a must-add bat in NL-only formats. Dating back to last season, he has a respectable .266/.357/.477 slash line.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto sits Saturday

Sat, 07 May 2016 13:27:04 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is out of the lineup Saturday, May 7, with 2B Derek Dietrich leading off. C Jeff Mathis is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich has a .350-1-5 line the last seven days, and he's a midrange start at second. Mathis is hitting just .167 and isn't an option against Jeremy Hellickson.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich hitting fifth

Wed, 04 May 2016 11:29:26 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich is hitting fifth and playing first base Wednesday, May 4, in place of 1B Justin Bour (finger). 2B Miguel Rojas is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Dietrich will shift to first against righties, such as today against Rubby De La Rosa, and Chris Johnson will face lefties while Bour is out. Dietrich has a .325-2-10 line and is an easy lower-middle flyer today. Rojas is hitting .333 in 24 at-bats, and he might be worth a bottom-of-the-barrel flyer today.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich, Justin Bour sitting

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:42:12 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich and 1B Justin Bour are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Patrick Corbin Tuesday, May 3. SS Miguel Rojas is at the keystone and is batting eighth, while 1B Chris Johnson is starting at first base and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Rojas is more of a desperation daily selection. Johnson doesn't move the needle much, either, but he does own a .312 career average against southpaws. Johnson doesn't hit for much power but makes steady contact and could return decent value if you're looking for a deep daily sleeper.
