Miami is bringing up the prospect because they have placed INF Chris Valaika (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Dietrich has posted a .282/.408/.505 slash line in 28 games for the Suns this season. He has a little power and speed and makes for an interesting player to pursue in NL-only leagues, even though he's probably quite raw.

P Michael Brady, P Adam Conley, P Brian Flynn, P Raudel Lazo, INF Danny Black, INF Derek Dietrich and OF Kevin Mattison were reassigned to minor league camp.

Six players, Ps Jose Fernandez, Justin Nicolino and Andrew Heaney, OFs Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick and SS Adeiny Hechavarria, are listed among baseball's top-100 prospects this year. Beinfest said 3B Derek Dietrich "could be our future third baseman. We love him."

"Yunel is a quality Major League shortstop," said Andrew Friedman, executive vice president of baseball operations. "He's a good defender. Has occasional pop. We feel like he really helps solidify our infield defense, which should be a real strength next year."
Thu, 07 Jun 2007 23:43:05 -0700 The Houston Chronicle reports the Houston Astros drafted a high school lefthanded power bat with their first pick, selecting IF Derek Dietrich of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. Dietrich, 17, was taken in the third round (111th pick) of the draft.
