Marlins | Derek Dietrich leading off

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:20:32 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich is leading off Saturday, April 30, against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich has a .290-1-6 line on the year and is about to see a whole lot more playing time with Dee Gordon suspended. He's a marginal start today.

Marlins | Different middle infield for Miami

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:27:52 -0700

Miami Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. SS Miguel Rojas is at shortstop and is hitting seventh, while 2B Derek Dietrich is at second base and is hitting sixth with 2B Dee Gordon starting his suspension. The Marlins are facing Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich and Rojas figure to split time at the keystone with Gordon suspended for the next 80 games. Dietrich has more power and is the more attractive waiver wire target if you're looking to replace Gordon in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues. Both could be decent low-priced daily fliers tonight opposite Davies.

Marlins | Martin Prado takes a seat

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:34:33 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Martin Prado is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Derek Dietrich is at the hot corner and is hitting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija. Also, C J.T. Realmuto is moved up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed utility player in Dietrich has some surprising pop for his size, and 20 of his 25 home runs in his career have come against right-handers. The Shark has been hurt by the long ball in the past year and change, so this is a matchup that could favor Dietrich for those digging deeper in daily leagues. Realmuto (9-for-44, .205) may get things going with a move up the order, but he's a risky proposition.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna, Martin Prado resting

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:58:24 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna and 3B Martin Prado are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. OF Ichiro Suzuki is starting in center field and hitting second, while OF Derek Dietrich is starting at the hot corner and is batting sixth against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki is a legend but has fallen off considerably and has very little daily or fantasy upside for that matter. Dietrich has surprising power (10 homers in 250 at-bats last year) and excels against righties, so he may work out as a cheap deep sleeper in daily formats.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto, Martin Prado out

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 11:54:28 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto and 3B Martin Prado are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 12. OF Derek Dietrich is starting at the hot corner and hitting sixth, while C Jeff Mathis is behind the plate and is batting eighth against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard was downright dominant in his first start against the reigning World Series champions in the Royals, so neither Dietrich nor Mathis are attractive at all for daily formats.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich to play all over

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 16:37:54 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Derek Dietrich is working at first base this spring after playing second base and left field the last two seasons. Manager Don Mattingly intends to play Dietrich a lot all over the field. "He's a very valuable guy for me," Mattingly said. "To me, I like the way he swings the bat. We can play him second, play him third, we think we can play him in left, and we think we can play him at first."

Fantasy Tip: His 10 long balls in 250 at-bats last year weren't a joke, as he made fly-ball gains in his third season. Playing time is obviously an issue, so that'll make him only relevant in NL-only leagues to start the year. But if an injury opens up significant playing time, he might be worth a look on the waiver wire in deep mixed leagues for some pop.

Marlins | Derek Dietrich playing left field

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:49:15 -0700

Miami Marlins INF/OF Derek Dietrich is batting fifth and starting in left field against Philadelphia Phillies SP David Buchanan Sunday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is just 1-for-16 over the past week and should be avoided today in FantasyScore.

Marlins | Martin Prado still out of the lineup

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 12:20:43 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Martin Prado (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. OF Derek Dietrich is starting at third base and hitting second against Philadelphia Phillies SP Alec Asher Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Prado ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has now sat six consecutive games, and there still hasn't been an update on when he'll return to the lineup. Continue to check back for updates, but seasonal owners shouldn't be afraid of replacing Prado for a player who can contribute immediately. Dietrich ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been an excellent contributor against right-handed pitchers this season with a .279/.369/.525 slash line, and he stands to move the FantasyScore needle for those willing to take a flier on the outfielder.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna out of the lineup vs. Mets

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 13:06:42 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. OF Derek Dietrich is starting in left field and batting fifth against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has flashed some upside with a .473 slugging percentage since rejoining the Marlins Saturday, Aug. 15. Dietrich ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has slowed down in the second half, but he still boasts a .239/.344/.478 slash line and stands as a viable value play at FantasyScore.

Marlins | Dee Gordon out of the starting lineup

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:25:25 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Dee Gordon is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 13. OF Derek Dietrich is starting at second base and batting sixth and OF Ichiro Suzuki is batting first against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: While Scherzer ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has struggled over his past seven starts with a 6.08 ERA, neither Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) or Dietrich ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) project as strong FantasyScore plays. At best, they're contrarian fliers Sunday.
