Sat, 13 Apr 2013 10:55:28 -0700 Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello will be available to pitch out of the bullpen Saturday, April 13, against the Oakland Athletics. The team is skipping his turn in the starting rotation because of an off day Monday, April 15, prior to the start of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 08:38:29 -0700 Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello won the final spot in the starting rotation. SP Drew Smyly will pitch in relief.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 17:07:17 -0700 The Detroit Tigers are intently listening to trade offers for SP Rick Porcello, but they haven't initiated anything with other clubs. Porcello has 18 strikeouts and no walks while allowing 15 hits in 18 innings over four spring starts, raising his trade value. "Is it improved mechanics? That he's not throwing his slider? I don't know. But people forget that here you had the top pitching prospect in the game when we drafted him (2007)," general manger Dave Dombrowski said.
Fantasy Tip: Porcello will become a very interesting pitching commodity if he's traded or wins the No. 5 rotation spot over Drew Smyly. He should be drafted in AL leagues, but you can wait to see what happens with him in mixed universes.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 17:05:15 -0700 The Detroit Tigers didn't ask for San Diego Padres RPs Huston Street or Luke Gregerson in exchange for SP Rick Porcello. The Padres would have surely turned that proposal down, if so.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 06:21:31 -0700 The St. Louis Cardinals inquired about Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello.
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 07:02:49 -0700 The Texas Rangers are one of two most active teams pursuing Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello. Talks do not appear at an advanced stage. Detroit covets SS Leury Garcia and P Nick Tepesch.
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 06:50:55 -0700 The San Diego Padres are one of two most active teams pursuing Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello. They made an aggressive offer for him last week, but they were rejected, according to a source.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 05:57:26 -0700 Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello is likely to be the No. 5 starter unless the team receives a significant offer for him. That means SP Drew Smyly likely begins in the minors.
Mon, 11 Mar 2013 13:24:49 -0700 Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello pitched five more solid innings Sunday, March 10, and he is using a curveball in favor of a slider that he hung too often. "His secondary stuff was terrific today, some of the best curveballs I've seen him throw, an excellent changeup, and some good movement with some velocity," manager Jim Leyland said. "He's been locked in pretty good so far." Porcello has given up no runs and six hits while striking out 10 in his last nine spring innings. He hasn't walked a single hitter in 13 innings.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 12:51:11 -0700 The Detroit Tigers likely will not look to trade SP Rick Porcello in the next few days because the longer the team waits, the more they likely would receive in return for Porcello. Porcello is the most likely starter to be traded because he is the veteran that would bring the most in return.
