Red Sox | Rick Porcello ends team's skid

Tue, 05 May 2015 22:23:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello scattered eight hits over seven scoreless innings in a win Tuesday, May 5, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He did not walk any batters while striking out six, helping the Red Sox snap a four-game losing streak.

Fantasy Tip: After posting two quality starts over his first four starts he has managed at back-to-back quality starts while lasting at least seven innings in each game. He was 1-2 with a 6.48 ERA in the first four, and 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA over his past two. Porcello ($4,400; 8.8% of cap) is a strong play in FantasyScore since he has six or more strikeouts in five straight outings.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello made adjustment

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:40:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello focused on improving his sinker after allowing eight runs and 12 hits in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, April 19. Porcello fixed his arm slot to make sure he stayed on line and had the right "whip" action with his arm.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) wasn't an attractive FantasyScore option Friday night while facing the Orioles yet again.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello loses team debut

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 22:03:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed three earned runs, six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a loss Wednesday, April 8, against the Philadelphia Phillies in his team debut.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners certainly expected more against a Phillies team which figures to be one of the worst in the league. At $6,400 (or 12.8% of cap) he isnít worth using in his next scheduled start Monday against a strong Washington Nationals lineup.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello signs extension

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 16:53:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello signed a four-year contract extension worth $82.5 million Monday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) probably isn't a name that many are considering at FantasyScore in his first start of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies this week. However, with Philly sporting one of the weaker lineups in baseball in 2015, Porcello could be a sleeper worth going with in his season debut.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello has started slow

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:05:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello has a 9-12 record with a 6.12 ERA in 26 career starts in the season's first month. However, he started 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA in four starts last year with the Detroit Tigers. "I feel strong," Porcello said. "My sequences, the way I'm thinking on the mound, is there. The consistency of the pitches isn't, again, where I want it to be. That's obviously why we're here in spring training. I've got to keep working on the consistency, but I like the sequences."

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) pitches against the Philadelphia Phillies on the road in his first start of 2015 with his new team. While his career numbers to start the season aren't good, and Philly is more of a hitter's park, Porcello may be an under-the-radar option against a Phils squad that isn't expected to score many runs this year.

Red Sox | No extension talks for Rick Porcello

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 09:34:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello said he hasn't had any talks with the team about a contract extension this spring, according to his agent, Jim Murray. "Honestly, I think this could be the last time I answer that question," Murray said. "I think the focus should be on baseball and our team and what we're going to do moving forward." Porcello is "100% focused" on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello won 15 games and had a sub-.400 ERA with the Detroit Tigers in 2014, but his K/9 fell from 7.2 to 5.7, leaving many concerned, especially with his move to Fenway Park. Porcello falls outside our top-200 rankings, but he could be a high-impact fantasy starter worth taking in the final rounds of standard mixed drafts to fill out your rotation.
