Red Sox | Rick Porcello runs record to 5-0

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:09:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed just five hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in a win Saturday, April 30, against the New York Yankees. He improved to 5-0 while lowering his ERA to 2.76.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello looked great in the month of April, winning all five decisions and pitching at least six innings in each of his outings. He has four straight quality starts heading into May.

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 scoreless innings to win his fourth consecutive outing Monday, April 25, against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello has recorded three straight quality starts and he has emerged as a must-start fantasy option in all formats due to his 0.94 WHIP.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello more consistent

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:27:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello has a 3.52 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 14 walks in 76 2/3 innings in 11 starts since returning from the disabled list last August. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is 8.0 and ranks fourth best in the American League. His 0.93 WHIP is 11th. Porcello's sinker has been working and he's been able to keep it down in the zone, despite allowing five home runs this year.

Fantasy Tip: When Porcello's command is on and he's staying down in the zone, he can certainly be useful to fantasy owners in mixed leagues. However, it's hard to say when his slider/sinker combination will be on, making him a shaky pitching commodity. Play the matchups with Porcello for now.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello stays perfect

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:24:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed three earned runs, six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a win Wednesday, April 20, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello has a 4.66 ERA in his three outings, but he has been receiving plenty of run support which is what fantasy owners like the most. He is a must-start in all AL-only leagues, most mixed formats right now and DFS play.

Red Sox | Another rough start for Rick Porcello

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 12:21:25 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out five batters through 6 2/3 innings during his Grapefruit League start Monday, March 28. Porcello's ERA is up to 9.77 during spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Following a disastrous 2015 campaign that included a 4.92 ERA and 1.36 WHIP, Porcello's spring is extremely disappointing, and it isn't out of the question to leave him to the waiver wire in standard 12-team leagues. Sure, there is some upside, but Porcello also owns a career 4.04 FIP and 5.8 K/9 through 212 games. Don't make him a priority on draft day.

Red Sox | Boston rotation not finalized

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 12:57:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SPs Rick Porcello, Joe Kelly and either Roenis Elias or Steven Wright will fill out the remainder of the rotation after SPs David Price and Clay Buchholz, but the order and fifth starter have not been determined, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello and Kelly are both inconsistent and nothing more than low-end options in deep mixed leagues. There is spot-start upside for both, but limiting your exposure to favorable matchups and AL-only leagues is advised. Elias and Wright are also just AL-only options with little upside.

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (8-13) allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, Sept. 18, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Friday, Porcello ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) had posted a 7.36 ERA over five career games at Rogers Centre and those numbers only got worse after this disastrous outing. His next start will come against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello picks up win

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 22:53:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed four runs - three earned - and eight hits over 7 1/3 innings in a win against the Toronto Blue Jays Monday, Sept. 7. He has had three straight strong starts since coming off the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right triceps.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has re-emerged as a must-start FantasyScore option since he is healthy and producing to his capabilities again.

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed three runs - one earned - and five hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts over eight innings in a loss against the New York Yankees Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has pitched much better of late and he has re-emerged as a decent low-end FantasyScore play at this price level.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello must continue sinker

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 18:22:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello threw 94 pitches in his most previous outing, and 51 of the pitchers were sinkers, which was his signature pitch for years with the Detroit Tigers. "That's probably the most trust I've seen him have (with his sinker)," C Blake Swihart said. Porcello admitted this season he started to rely more on his four-seam fastball rather than his sinker. In his start Wednesday, Aug. 26, he threw his sinker more than 50 percent of his pitchers for just the third time in 21 starts. Last season he did it 22 of his 31 starts and he turned in a career-best 3.43 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) got away from what made him successful last season and it has showed in his results in his first year in Boston. FantasyScore players might find him to be a nice bargain down the stretch if he sticks with his sinker and it continues to pay big dividends.
