Red Sox | Rick Porcello now 10-0 at home

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 17:22:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello became the first pitcher in 55 years to start a season 10-0 at Fenway Park, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits while walking one and striking out eight over 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Minnesota Twins Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't his finest outing by any means, but Porcello continues to exceed expectations. He is a must-start player in season-long leagues and a viable option in daily formats when he pitches at home.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello picks up 12th win

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:27:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed just four hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, July 19. He walked two and struck out three while improving his record to 12-2, including 9-0 at Fenway Park.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello hasn't lost since May 17, and he has two win streaks of at least five games this season, including his current six-game effort. If you want to nitpick, you can point to his strikeout numbers being down in July -- 11 in 19 1/3 IP -- but there's no reason he shouldn't be in your lineup every time he takes the hill.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello wins again at home

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 18:26:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello improved to 8-0 in nine home starts, allowing one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello has become a must-own fantasy option in all season-long formats this year, and he is a potential DFS play when he takes the mound at Fenway Park.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello wins ninth game

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:53:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed one earned run, five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over six innings in a win Tuesday, June 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays to pick up his ninth win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: The three walks were a rarity, snapping a 19-start streak with two or fewer walks. He is unbeaten in June in six starts, and continues to be a must-start in all fantasy leagues and DFS play.

Rays | Corey Dickerson out Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:26:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson (thumb) will miss another game Tuesday, June 28, due to a sore left thumb. 2B Nick Franklin will take Dickerson's designated hitter spot and bat eighth against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson shouldn't need the DL, but fantasy owners will miss his power production. Although he has a .209 batting average, Dickerson does have 13 home runs this season. Bench him for the time being until this is resolved. Franklin went 3-for-5 in the Monday, June 27, game and might be worth a DFS start.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello doesn't give it away

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 21:19:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello is scheduled to start Tuesday, July 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 8-2 with a 3.93 ERA, and he hasn't allowed more than two walks in any of his past 19 outings, longest stretch for a Red Sox pitcher since SP Curt Schilling allowed two or fewer walks in 33 straight starts.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello is 1-0 with a 4.45 ERA in five starts in June. Overall he has a 1.13 WHIP with 81 strikeouts over 94 innings. He has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues and he is a great DFS play, too.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello takes no-decision

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 18:53:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello received a no-decision in his start Thursday, June 23, against the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk. He also struck out two.

Fantasy Tip: Not the sharpest of outings from the 27-year-old, but he can be excused for this one considering how well he had pitched entering this afternoon's assignment. Porcello had strung together three quality starts prior to this performance, so hopefully he's able to get back on track his next time out. Overall, he's been terrific for fantasy owners this year, being 8-2 with a 3.93 ERA.

Mariners | Franklin Gutierrez not starting

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:31:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez is not in the lineup against the Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello on Saturday, June 18, after going 3-for-5 with two homers and six RBI on Friday, June 17. OF Seth Smith is drawing the start in right field instead and will bat second. 1B Adam Lind will man first base and hit sixth while C Steve Clevenger will serve as the backstop and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez has made three consecutive starts prior to today, but that is only because Seattle has faced left-handers each time. He has been sitting against right-handers, against whom he is hitting only .147 in limited at-bats. Gutierrez is a worthwhile gamble in deeper leagues anytime he faces a southpaw, however, as he is hitting .299 with five homers and 17 RBI against them this season. Most owners can ignore Smith, Lind and Clevenger until further notice.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello evening out

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:59:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA in his last four starts after he began the year 6-1 with a 3.11 ERA in his first seven starts.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello has a 4.00 ERA and 1.09 WHIP as one of Boston's more consistent starters on the year. His career-high 8.0 strikeouts per nine innings is encouraging, too. He should continue to retain value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues as more of a matchup play.
