Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello became the fourth pitcher in team history to throw a shutout without walking or striking out a hitter after beating the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, July 1, and the first since Dizzy Trout in 1944. Porcello had 17 ground-ball outs and 10 in the air. He allowed just three singles and a double. He had another shutout in his previous start last week, and he had only one career complete game before this stretch. Porcello is the first Tigers pitcher since Jack Morris to throw back-to-back shutouts.

Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello (side) felt fine Tuesday, May 13, just one day after leaving his start due to pain in the side. "He fought me on it," manager Brad Ausmus said. "He wanted to go back out, and he could have in terms of pitch count. But I just thought the safe thing to do would be to get him out of there right now before something bad happens. If he had gone back out there and really injured himself, I would have trouble sleeping." Porcello was able to do some easy throwing without any restriction.
Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Porcello should be in good shape to make his scheduled start Sunday against Boston. Fantasy owners can feel fairly confident keeping him in the active fantasy lineup.
