Rangers | Tanner Scheppers activated, Aaron Poreda optioned

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 13:12:51 -0700

The Texas Rangers activated SP Tanner Scheppers (elbow) from the disabled list Thursday, June 5, and optioned RP Aaron Poreda to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Scheppers will move to the bullpen now that he's back with the club.

Fantasy Tip: Scheppers could be an option for the rotation again eventually, but now that he's back in the bullpen, he carries little value for fantasy owners.

Rangers | Tanner Scheppers to DL

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 12:59:36 -0700

The Texas Rangers are putting SP Tanner Scheppers (elbow, forearm) on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow and forearm Friday, April 18, and recalled P Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Also, INF Andy Parrino was designated for assignment. Scheppers will not throw for 10 days. SP Nick Martinez is likely to start against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez has an average fastball and relies on control instead of overpowering hitters. He has improved his secondary offerings, as well. Nothing flashy here, but he could be a nice pickup in AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Neftali Feliz optioned

Tue, 25 Mar 2014 12:26:25 -0700

The Texas Rangers optioned RP Neftali Feliz (elbow) to minor league camp Tuesday, March 25, so that he can continue his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Also, the team re-assigned RPs Aaron Poreda and Rafael Perez to the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Those who assumed Feliz would fall back into the closer role immediately to start the season turned out to be wrong. Joakim Soria will open as Texas' closer. Feliz's velocity just wasn't what they were hoping for, so they'll let him iron out those kinks in the minors. He won't automatically get the ninth-inning gig back once he's back to peak form, though, unless Soria struggles mightily before then. You can safely drop Feliz in mixed leagues.
