The Seattle Mariners are dealing with an open spot in their starting rotation, one that is likely to be filled by SP Erasmo Ramirez. However, SP Blake Beavan has been solid in a long-relief role out of the bullpen lately and has starting experience. Ramirez is sporting a 5.06 ERA at Triple-A Tacoma after allowing three runs and seven hits while walking six in 5 1/3 innings in his last outing. A remote possibility would be SP Taijuan Walker, who is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA with 16 strikeouts and five walks at Tacoma. SP Danny Hultzen (shoulder) is nursing an arm injury and hasn't pitched in July, so he's not an option.
Fantasy Tip: Grab Ramirez in all AL-only leagues if he isn't owned already. If he's the one to take the rotation spot, he's worthy of consideration in deep mixed leagues, as well, even if it's a short-term stay in the rotation.

The Seattle Mariners recalled SP Blake Beavan from Triple-A Tacoma Thursday, June 6, and optioned SP Hector Noesi to Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Beavan, who struggled in the rotation earlier this year, is likely to provide the team with relief for their bullpen after a 16-inning game yesterday.

Seattle Mariners SP Blake Beavan picked up his first victory Tuesday, May 14, since being demoted to Triple-A Tacoma. He is 1-2 with a 4.86 ERA in three starts since being sent down.

Seattle Mariners SP Blake Beavan will be stretched out as a starter at Triple-A Tacoma in case SP Aaron Harang needs to be bumped from the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Danny Hultzen (shoulder) is dealing with shoulder problems, so Beavan could be the next starter in line for a promotion if Harang continues to struggle. Beavan will be useful in AL-only leagues if he's recalled.

The Seattle Mariners optioned P Blake Beavan to Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday, May 1, and recalled RP Lucas Luetge in a corresponding move.

Seattle Mariners SP Aaron Harang will make his first start for the team Tuesday, April 16, and SP Blake Beavan will be sent to the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Scoop up Harang immediately in AL-only leagues now that it's official that he'll be joining the rotation. He could be a decent matchup play in cavernous mixed formats, as well.

Seattle Mariners SP Brandon Maurer is the long shot to win the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, according to The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker. SP Jon Garland can control his own destiny based on how he fares in his next spring outing. Even if Garland doesn't win a spot, Baker thinks SPs Blake Beavan and Erasmo Ramirez will get the final two spots. Maurer has been good but hasn't stood out above the other competitors.
Fantasy Tip: Ramirez probably has the most upside of anyone in this competition if you're speculating on a winner in deep mixed leagues or AL-only formats. Garland is worth a dice roll in AL leagues since he has the leg up on one of the rotation spots.

Seattle Mariners SPs Brandon Maurer, Blake Beavan or Erasmo Ramirez won't be pitching out of the bullpen if they don't make the starting rotation. Maurer, Beavan and Ramirez are competing with SPs Jon Garland and Jeremy Bonderman for the final two rotation spots this spring, and the young pitchers will be sent to Triple-A Tacoma if they don't make the roster. Bonderman or Garland might also be sent down, but it's doubtful both will. With the way Garland has pitched, he's likely to crack the rotation.
Maurer is going to have to be very good the rest of the spring because he's yet to pitch at Class AAA and has plenty of options left. Ramirez missed a big chunk of last year with an elbow injury and had only limited success last year. Beavan's arm is developed enough to handle a large workload, so he might be the most likely to win a rotation spot.
