Reds | Devin Mesoraco recovering well

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 17:01:17 -0800

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) has had no setbacks since undergoing season-ending surgery on his left hip June 27, and he has "every expectation" that he will be healthy and ready to go from the first day of camp.

Fantasy Tip: After a breakout campaign in 2014 in which he registered 25 home runs and 80 RBI, Mesoraco was an immense disappointment a season ago, as he was limited to just 23 games thanks to injuries. However, all signs point to him being healthy at the start this time around, making him a fine sleeper candidate.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco expects typical spring

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 16:03:28 -0800

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) said he expects a "normal" spring training entering the 2016 season, and he noted he can already squat in the catcher position.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco was limited to just 23 games and 51 plate appearances in 2015. However, don't forget his 25-homer, 80-RBI season in 2014, and with catcher eligibility, he'll be worth a long look during spring training and stands as a potential bounce-back candidate for 2016. Given the limited depth at the catcher position, Mesoraco could pay off handsomely if he falls into the late rounds of drafts.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco's rehab on schedule

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 18:49:16 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) anticipates being completely healthy by the time spring training rolls around. He has been performing agility drills and other exercises and said that his range of motion feels good. Mesoraco hasn't resumed squatting in the catcher's position and has been asked not to do so for a few more weeks, although he has been allowed to do half squats. He is expected to begin doing baseball activities such as hitting and throwing on Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: After being one of the top catchers selected in most fantasy baseball drafts, Mesoraco hit just .178 with two RBIs in 45 at-bats before shelved for the remainder of the season due to a left hip impingement. Assuming he returns to his 2014 form, seasonal owners could get him at a relative bargain in next season's drafts because of his injury history.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco is expected to be ready for spring training, but FantasyScore players need not worry about him for the rest of the season.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco out for season

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 13:49:23 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) will have season-ending hip surgery June 29. He said he'll be able to do his normal offseason work on time.

Fantasy Tip: Brayan Pena ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will continue to see the majority of the work behind the plate, but he has a very low ceiling on FantasyScore.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco leaning towards surgery

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 23:27:30 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) is close to opting for season-ending surgery on his hip. "I wanted to continue to get to the point where this is my only option, this is the only thing I can do. I'm definitely pretty close to that now," Mesoraco said. "We've done eight to 10 different things to try to make it feel better, but every time we try something, it continues to get (aggravated) in there. I think I wanted to get to the point where I was 100 percent comfortable. That's why we continued to try, continued to do stuff. We haven't messed anything up from the timetable-wise for next season. It was worth it in my mind to get that 100 percent, that hey, we tried everything."

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco was one of the top-rated catchers entering the season and laid a giant egg for traditional leaguers. If you can hold him on your DL, do so until he's officially done.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco's rehab assingment on hold

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 12:08:03 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) returned to Cincinnati to do rehab work, after he left a game with Class AAA Louisville Wednesday, June 10. Manager Bryan Price said Mesoraco is still sore, and he'll be re-assessed when the Reds return from their road trip Wednesday, June 17. "We thought we could transition to outfield," Price said. "But it hasn't gone as well as we had hoped."

Fantasy Tip: At this point, seasonal owners should be thrilled with any offensive production from Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) this, as it appears he is likely headed for surgery. It isn't out of the question to move on if you can utilize his roster spot more effectively. He already couldn't catch, and now he is struggling to play the outfield.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco begins rehab stint

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 05:42:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) went hitless in his first game of a rehab assignment at Class AAA Louisville Monday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) would salvage at least some of the value that made him one of the top catchers taken in traditional drafts with a successful return. He'll be a daily option on FantasyScore at that price.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco to play OF in rehab games

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 16:24:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) will be working in the outfield with first base coach Billy Hatcher during the team's homestand and will play in left field during rehab games with Class AAA Louisville after the team goes on the road. Mesoraco could be an option in left field for the Reds if he does not have any problems during the rehab assignment. Mesoraco has been told he can't do any more damage to his hip if he plays in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has not seen regular playing time since the start of the season but could help out if he is able to play in left field. Owners on FantasyScore should monitor the situation since he could be an option if he is able to play.

Reds | Devin Mesoraco will try the outfield

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 13:01:40 -0700

Cincinnati Red Sox C Devin Mesoraco (hip) will receive a look in the outfield as a means to him playing this season, according to manager Bryan Price. He can have surgery after the season, if needed, and continue playing this year. Price also noted the organization still anticipates Mesoraco catching in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues, because he owns a high-end bat among the catcher player pool. However, there is no telling just what he'll return at this point, and any production should really just be considered a bonus. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will continue to receive the majority of starts behind the dish, and at his price, he is a huge bargain for FantasyScore players.
