Cardinals | Jason Heyward will not play

Sat, 02 May 2015 08:54:41 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals are facing a left-handed pitcher, which is the likely reason for Heyward ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) not in the lineup. Peter Bourjos ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is taking his place in the lineup but is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward bumped down lineup

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:47:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is batting sixth against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, April 29, for the second consecutive game.

Fantasy Tip: While Heyward ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) didn't have a huge hand in the Cards' 11-run outburst Tuesday, April 28, he did reach base four times and score two runs. Look for Heyward to stick lower in the lineup as long as the team is producing. It should improve Heyward's RBI upside and slightly hurt him in the runs category.

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:53:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward (groin) is back in the lineup and is hitting sixth on Tuesday, April 28, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has gotten off to a slow start in his new surroundings, with a .192 average and not much pop in the last week. You may want to hold off and see how Heyward does in the next game or two before putting any money on him.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward has groin tightness

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 13:43:49 -0700

Updating a previous post, St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward (groin) experienced tightness in his left groin and had to leave the game Sunday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Heyward ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) and how he fares in the post-game examination. Jon Jay will likely see more starts if Heyward has to miss some time. This is a bad break for St. Louis because Heyward was just starting to find his plate stroke.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward injures ankle

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 12:38:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward (ankle) left the game Sunday, April 26, after suffering an apparent left ankle injury while chasing down a triple hit by Milwaukee Brewers OF Gerardo Parra.

Fantasy Tip: It has not been a great series for the Cardinals, who have seen Yadier Molina, Adam Wainwright and Heyward ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) get injured this weekend. If Heyward is sidelined for an extended period of time, OF Jon Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and INF/OF Mark Reynolds ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could wind up sharing playing time in right field.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward has new plate approach

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 13:21:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is utilizing a new stance at the plate this season. He is standing closer to the plate with his hands closer to his body to produce a more natural stride through the ball with less movement in his hands.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run and a stolen base in the season opener Sunday, April 5. Batting second and ahead of RBI-machine Matt Holliday stands to help Heyward rebound in a big way this season. He hit the ball hard Sunday, too. In favorable pitching matchups, he is a solid outfield option for FantasyScore players.

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 23:32:06 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward had three hits off Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Jon Lester in the season opener Sunday, April 5.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward hit just .169 against lefties last season, so this was a great sign. J-Hey ($4,700, 9.4% of your cap) is a great second outfielder on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward slated for No. 2 spot?

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 14:44:29 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is expected to bat second this season, although manager Mike Matheny has not officially confirmed it.

Fantasy Tip: Batting second makes sense for Heyward and the Cards, and after all, it is where he spent the most time during his five seasons with the Atlanta Braves. The 25-year-old Heyward already has 2819 plate appearances in the majors, and a couple solid fantasy seasons under his belt. Relocating to a better line and entering his prime, there is a lot to like about Heyward heading into the 2015 season. Landing him in the early middle rounds as your No. 2 outfielder would be a solid start at the position.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward felt limited at leadoff

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 08:03:07 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward said he felt his approach while hitting leadoff for much of 2014 limited his power potential. Manager Mike Matheny said he has no plans to hit Heyward leadoff. Matheny likened Heyward's spot in the lineup to New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran's, saying that Beltran hit second in the lineup but had the approach of a No. 3 hitter. Heyward could hit anywhere from No. 2 to No. 6, and Matheny suggests he should just establish a steady approach, regardless of spot.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward is in a contract year, and the team feels he has a lot of "untapped potential." The signs are there for a big season in '15, and he'd make a brilliant second outfielder in mixed leagues.
