Cubs | Jayson Heyward feeling better

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:55:19 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) said he has "dull soreness" on his side, but added, "I love how I'm feeling. I have complete confidence to test it."

Fantasy Tip: Whatever the case, Heyward is not in the lineup again on Monday, though it sounds like he's pretty close to returning. While he remains out, the Cubs have been inventive with how they replace him in right field, even using the likes of Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist. As a result, Javier Baez benefits while Heyward remains sidelined, and is a pretty good value play for daily leagues when he's in the lineup.

Cubs | Still no Jason Heyward

Mon, 23 May 2016 13:04:24 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) remains out of the starting lineup Monday, May 23. 3B Kris Bryant moves to right field and is hitting second, while 2B/OF Javier Baez is at the hot corner and is batting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward could wind up missing the entire series to begin the week, so you're better off not risking it and benching in weekly leagues. A DL trip remains possible. Jorge Soler and Javier Baez benefit the most as long as Heyward is out. Both have nice power-speed combinations, although Soler has mostly disappointed this year.

Cubs | Jason Heyward out Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:11:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) is out of the starting lineup Sunday, May 22, against the San Francisco Giants. OF Matt Szczur will bat seventh and play right field against Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned in previous tips, Heyward could be out anywhere from three to five days following his rib injury on Saturday. Szczur, himself just back from the DL due to hamstring issues, has six hits in his last 15 at-bats and makes a decent pickup in daily contests.

Cubs | Jason Heyward avoids DL

Sat, 21 May 2016 15:37:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) will miss three to five days with a contusion near his ribs. He'll avoid the disabled list. OF Matt Szczur (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: If you own Heyward and have weekly lineups, it's probably best to bench him next week to be on the safe side. He has come around a bit with the bat, but the team can afford to play it safe with arguably the best defensive right fielder in baseball. Szczur could see a couple starts in his place, and he had a .367-2-10 line in 30 at-bats. He'll be a low-end consideration in daily pools. Jorge Soler has a promising week as he hits the St. Louis Cardinals extremely well. He's worth the speculative start.

Cubs | Jorge Soler draws another start

Sat, 21 May 2016 13:44:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is in the starting lineup Saturday, May 21, against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain, making his third straight start in left field and will bat fifth. 2B Ben Zobrist will shift from his usual spot at second base to right field to replace injured OF Jason Heyward and hit fourth. Javier Baez will move over from third to replace Zobrist at the keystone and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: The only question in regards to the Cubs' lineup following Heyward's injury was whether Kris Bryant or Zobrist would move to the outfield. Today, it is Zobrist, who is getting rewarded with a shot at the cleanup spot after hitting safely in 16 of his last 17 games. Soler has endured a miserable season so far (.200), although he has shown signs of life over the last three games. Baez is hitless in his last 15 at-bats. As a result, only Zobrist should be trusted of this bunch in most fantasy lineups until further notice.

Cubs | Jason Heyward will not start Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 13:43:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (hip, ribs) is not in the lineup Saturday, May 21, against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain. Heyward was hurt after crashing into the outfield fence Friday, May 20, and is awaiting the results of an MRI.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should be prepared for a multi-game absence and possibly a stint on the disabled list. In such a scenario, Kris Bryant and/or Ben Zobrist will likely shift to the outfield, leaving Tommy La Stella or Javier Baez as potential every-day players in the interim. Baez, in particular, would be a wonderful DFS option should this situation play out as expected.

Cubs | Jason Heyward to undergo MRI

Sat, 21 May 2016 06:18:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (abdomen) is scheduled to undergo an MRI after he suffering an abdominal injury against the San Francisco Giants Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Heyward will miss multiple games because of the injury. Kris Bryant probably would move to the outfield if Heyward misses time, which would give Tommy La Stella and Javier Baez some starts. Both La Stella and Baez would be decent options in daily fantasy leagues.

Cubs | Jason Heyward not pulling pitches

Fri, 20 May 2016 17:17:58 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward has not been able to pull pitches with any authority this year. He's hitting just .234 with one home run.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps a wrist issue that cropped up early last month has been the culprit for Heyward's slow start in Chicago. He's still getting on base at a decent clip (.325 OBP), though, and should pick things up eventually in this potent offense. Don't bank on him hitting 20 home runs, but he's a decent buy-low candidate right now.
