Fri, 17 May 2013 20:15:22 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendectomy) went 2-for-4 with a double, walk, two runs scored, RBI and a strikeout Friday, May 17, against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his first game back from the 15-day disabled list.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:20:48 -0700 The Atlanta Braves activated OF Jason Heyward (appendix) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 17, and placed RP Jordan Walden (shoulder) on the DL with right shoulder inflammation. Fantasy Tip: Get Heyward back into your lineups as soon as possible. His return takes whatever fleeting value Reed Johnson and Jordan Schafer had in NL-only leagues. It might be tougher to get Evan Gattis into the lineup now, too.
Tue, 14 May 2013 10:20:37 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) went 1-for-2 with an RBI double with Triple-A Gwinnett Monday, May 13. Fantasy Tip: Heyward is expected to return from the disabled list this weekend, as early as Friday, May 17. Make plans to get him back into your lineup later this week.
Mon, 13 May 2013 15:47:12 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) won't join the team in Arizona this week, but he could be ready to come off the disabled list Friday, May 17. Fantasy Tip: The Braves are clearly giving Heyward plenty of time to recover from his appendectomy. You'll have to wait another week to put him in your weekly lineups. Reed Johnson and Jordan Schafer will go back to reserve duties when Heyward returns.
Sat, 11 May 2013 10:27:39 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) did not play for Triple-A Gwinnett Friday, May 10, one day after his rehab assignment had started. According to general manager Frank Wren, Heyward was experiencing "normal soreness" after having been sidelined for an extended period of time.
Fri, 10 May 2013 16:24:21 -0700 Atlanta Braves SP Jason Heyward (appendix) didn't play in a rehab game Friday, May 10, due to general soreness. Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't be considered a setback for Heyward, who hadn't played in two weeks prior to last night. He could return to the Braves as soon as next week.
Thu, 09 May 2013 14:14:55 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) was the designated hitter for Triple-A Gwinnett Thursday, May 9, and he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and a walk while playing all nine innings. It's assumed that he'll stay on his rehab assignment this weekend. Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how long Heyward's rehab stint will last, but he is getting pretty close to returning to the team and putting Jordan Schafer and Reed Johnson out of regular roles in a platoon situation in right field.
Wed, 08 May 2013 11:33:30 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) will play with Triple-A Gwinnett Thursday, May 9, and he will also play this weekend. It's unclear how long his rehab assignment will last, but he took batting practice for the third day in a row Wednesday, May 8, and also did some running. Fantasy Tip: This is definitely good news for Heyward owners. If he doesn't have a setback this weekend, it's very possible that Heyward could be activated from the disabled list and return to action next week. Jordan Schafer, Reed Johnson and even Evan Gattis will lose considerable playing time when Heyward returns. Gattis is the biggest loser for fantasy owners, but Fredi Gonzalez will attempt to find time for him whenever he can. If you have other needs in mixed leagues, we wouldn't blame you if you dropped Gattis.
Mon, 06 May 2013 14:55:28 -0700 Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis, who is starting in left field Monday, May 6, will split time in the outfield, at catcher and at first base now that C Brian McCann (shoulder) is back from the disabled list. However, with McCann making $12 million this year and set to become a free agent after this season, it's believed that McCann won't be brought back in 2014 and Gattis will become the team's primary catcher. Gattis played left field in winter ball, which allows OF Justin Upton to move to right field at least while OF Jason Heyward (appendix) is out. Fantasy Tip: Gattis should still be worth hanging onto in deep mixed leagues since he should be playing at least three or four times a week until Heyward returns. After that, playing time will likely be even harder to come by for Gattis. If less PT affects Gattis' performance, only then would it be reasonable to drop Gattis in deep mixed formats.
Mon, 06 May 2013 14:54:00 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendix) will take batting practice Monday, May 6, a day ahead of schedule. He will likely take batting practice for a few days and he could start a rehab assignment later this week.
