Miami Marlins 3B Matt Dominguez (face) was hit in the face by a bad-hop groundball Tuesday, March 6, against the Detroit Tigers in Grapefruit League action. "When I was there, I thought everything in his face was broken," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Thank god, it didn't happen." Dominguez was struck just under the right eye, and he is expected to be fine with just a contusion.

Miami Marlins Triple-A New Orleans broadcaster Ron Swoboda thinks Marlins 3B Matt Dominguez needs a major swing adjustment to excel in the majors. "He's got to fix it to make it shorter and quicker to the ball," Swoboda said. "He kind of pushes the bat through the zone and he's long to the ball. He's a smart kid. He's got an absolutely optimum attitude. The guy can play that position, but you have to hit a little bit there and you have to hit with some power or you can't play there."

Miami Marlins 3B Matt Dominguez is a candidate to be dealt to the Chicago Cubs in a deal that would land Miami SP Carlos Zambrano. The Cubs are expected to pick up a large chunk of Zambrano's $18 million salary next year in any trade.

A source said the Miami Marlins intend to move SS Hanley Ramirez to third base if they sign SS Jose Reyes (Mets). There was some speculation that Ramirez would be moved to center field. The team is clearly down on 3B Matt Dominguez.

Florida Marlins 3B Matt Dominguez (thumb) is dealing with a bruised right thumb, and he will not be able to play in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game Saturday, Nov. 5. X-rays were negative, and he's not dealing with a fracture or ligament damage. Dominguez should return to action in a few days.

The Florida Marlins are reportedly very interested in signing Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez this offseason. The Cubs are not expected to pick up Ramirez's $16 million option for the 2012 season, which would make him a free agent. Signing Ramirez would allow the Marlins to develop 3B Matt Dominguez at the minor league level. Florida is already being mentioned as a suitor for Texas Rangers SP C.J. Wilson, too.

Florida Marlins 3B Matt Dominguez will participate in the Arizona Fall League this offseason along with all of baseball's other top prospects. He collected his first major league hit Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The Florida Marlins consider 3B Matt Dominguez, who was recently recalled from the minors, as their third baseman of the future, but only if can prove that he can hit major league pitching. However, he might not play all the time over the final few weeks of the season. "Some of these guys who have been here like (Greg) Dobbs and those guys, have done yeomen's work all season long. You just can't slight then. We'll mix and match. We'll try to get a look at all the young guys. But we'll be selective," skipper Jack McKeon said. Dominguez hit .258 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs in 87 games with Triple-A New Orleans this year.
