Cleveland Indians 1B Casey Kotchman will make $3 million in 2012 and can earn an extra $1.75 million in performance bonuses. He is expected to compete for the starting first base job with 1B Matt LaPorta and INF Russ Canzler.

Cleveland Indians 1B Casey Kotchman is expected to start at first base this season. 1B Matt LaPorta will likely start the year with Triple-A Columbus, and OF Shelley Duncan could serve as the backup since he's out of minor league options. C Carlos Santana also figures to see starts at first base.

The Cleveland Indians recalled 1B Matt LaPorta from Triple-A Columbus Friday, Sept. 9. Also, the team outrighted OF Jerad Head to Columbus after he cleared waivers.

Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta is eligible to be promoted from Triple-A Columbus Friday, Sept. 9. He was optioned to the minors Aug. 30. Manager Manny Acta did not say whether LaPorta would re-join the team in Chicago, but he is expected to come back before the end of the current 10-game road trip.

The Cleveland Indians recalled SP Jeanmar Gomez from Triple-A Columbus Tuesday, Aug. 30, to make the start versus the Oakland Athletics. In a corresponding move, the team optioned 1B Matt LaPorta to Columbus.

Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (foot) was not in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 7, against the Texas Rangers due to a sore left foot. He was hit by a pitch Friday, Aug. 5, and is still sore. LaPorta hopes to return to the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 9.
