Matt LaPorta Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Matt LaPorta MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 11 Mar 2013 12:59:22 -0700 The Cleveland Indians optioned OF Tim Fedroff and Ps Trey Haley, T.J. House, Chen-Chang Lee and Danny Salazar to Triple-A Columbus Monday, March 11. 1B Matt LaPorta, P Fernando Nieve and C Roberto Perez were sent to minor league camp.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 19:59:28 -0800 Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (hip) isn't expected to play in Cactus League games until at least mid-March, as he continues to recover from offseason hip surgery. "We're going to hold him back for a week," manager Terry Francona said Wednesday, Feb. 13. "Opening Day is not the finish line for him. And he knows that."
Sun, 10 Feb 2013 21:32:56 -0800 The odds are stacked against Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (hip) making the Opening Day roster. However, he is not focusing on his battle for a spot, but rather just feeling better than he did last season. "I feel a million times better," LaPorta said. He is making his way back from an arthroscopic procedure on his left hip to clean up bone fragments. Fantasy Tip: LaPorta is a non-roster invitee who has resumed a light running program, but he is not yet running the bases. His chances to break camp with the team appear slim, so avoid him in all fantasy formats on Draft Day unless something dramatically changes.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 14:08:49 -0800 The Cleveland Indians signed free-agent RP Matt Capps (Twins) to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training Thursday, Jan. 31. The team also announced that 1B Matt LaPorta will be invited to spring training as a non-roster player.
Tue, 20 Nov 2012 16:39:03 -0800 The Cleveland Indians added Ps Trey Haley, Chen-Chang Lee, T.J. House and Tim Fedroff to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Nov. 20, to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft. In related moves, the team outrighted 1B Matt LaPorta and INF Brent Lillibridge to Triple-A Columbus and designated P Fabio Martinez for assignment.
Thu, 18 Oct 2012 13:23:48 -0700 Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (hip) underwent arthroscopic left hip surgery Thursday, Oct. 18, and he'll need three to four months of recovery time. He's expected to be fully ready for spring training unless he suffers a setback. "He's out of options going into next year," general manager Chris Antonetti said at the end of the regular season. "So he'll either have to be on a major league team somewhere or he'd have to go through waivers before he could be sent back to the minor leagues." It seems unlikely that LaPorta will earn an everyday job at this point with Cleveland, though. INF Russ Canzler and 3B Jack Hannahan are other options at first base, and Canzler and OF Ezequiel Carrera are the leading internal candidates for left field.
Fri, 24 Aug 2012 16:09:18 -0700 Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said the team plans to get an extensive look at 1B Matt LaPorta over the remainder of the season. "He's going to get plenty of at-bats the rest of the way," Acta said. "He deserves, and we deserve, to give him an extended look for the rest of the year." He hit .264 with 19 home runs, 19 doubles and 61 RBIs in 101 games with Triple-A Columbus. LaPorta will play mostly at first base and as the designated hitter.
Fri, 24 Aug 2012 12:33:20 -0700 The Cleveland Indians recalled 1B Matt LaPorta from Triple-A Columbus Friday, Aug. 24, and optioned RP Frank Herrmann to Columbus in a corresponding move.
Wed, 13 Jun 2012 12:08:52 -0700 The Cleveland Indians optioned 1B Matt LaPorta to Triple-A Columbus to make room for newly acquired P Esmil Rogers.
Sun, 03 Jun 2012 12:35:46 -0700 Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said OF Johnny Damon (paternity) will rejoin the team Wednesday, June 6, in Detroit. 1B Matt LaPorta was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to fill his spot on the active roster.
