Nationals | Ross Detwiler to be activated Thursday

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 17:05:24 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) will be activated from the disabled list to start on Thursday, June 13, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners might want to wait until his next outing to activate him. He hasn't face big leaguers in a month and will be pitching at Coors Field.

Nationals | Ross Detwiler to make rehab start Saturday

Thu, 06 Jun 2013 15:48:14 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) is expected to make a rehab start with Single-A Potomac Saturday, June 8. "He's doing fine," manager Davey Johnson said. "He's on target to pitch in Potomac on the 8th. Limited to 40-50 pitches and that should set him up to come back here and start the 13th or 14th."

Fantasy Tip: If he avoids any setbacks during his rehab outing, expect the Nats to return Detwiler to their starting rotation next weekend. Ross Ohlendorf, who is expected to make a sport start this Saturday, is likely to have a short stay in the rotation.

Nationals | Ross Detwiler won't start this weekend

Wed, 05 Jun 2013 14:06:58 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) has made nice progress, but he won't make a start this weekend. He threw two innings of a simulated game Wednesday, June 5, and will make a rehab start in the minors Monday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler should be expected to return to the rotation after his minor league start, but oblique issues are tricky, so a minor setback could be meaningful. With Stephen Strasburg (lat) also on the DL, the Nats are running out of starting options. Nate Karns will continue to fill in for Detwiler. Ross Ohlendorf or Craig Stammen are options to replace Strasburg.

Nationals | Ross Detwiler nearing return?

Wed, 05 Jun 2013 10:32:40 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) will start on Saturday, June 8, either for the parent club or in a rehab outing, according to GM Mike Rizzo, who made the statement on his radio show on Wednesday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: The Nats face the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, and fantasy owners should be OK to activate the left-hander if he takes the ball for the big club. If Detwiler takes that turn, it means that Stephen Strasburg (lat) has been skipped, and perhaps that he's headed for the disabled list.

Wed, 29 May 2013 10:47:16 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) won't return Sunday, June 2, his next scheduled run-through in the rotation. Nathan Karns will take his place.

Fantasy Tip: Karns will keep his bottom-rung NL-only value for at least one more outing.

Nationals | Ross Detwiler to pitch Sunday

Tue, 28 May 2013 14:00:01 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) is on track to start against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 2, but the team wants to see how Detwiler is feeling before calling up P Nathan Karns from the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries are tricky, so it's not a lock that Detwiler will be activated from the DL for that start. If he can't go, Karns would be nothing more than a spot starter for those interested in deep NL leagues.

Nationals | Jordan Zimmermann not an option Tuesday

Sun, 26 May 2013 18:06:14 -0700

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Sunday, May 26, that SP Jordan Zimmermann is not an option to work Tuesday, May 28, to work on three days' rest in place of the injured SP Ross Detwiler (oblique).

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann will start Wednesday, May 29, against the Baltimore Orioles. He is just 1-2 against the Orioles in three starts since the start of the 2010 season, but he has a fantastic 2.75 ERA during that span over 19 2/3 innings. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all formats.

Nationals | Ross Detwiler placed on DL

Sun, 26 May 2013 18:05:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals placed SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 26, due to his strained right oblique. The move is retroactive to May 16, and the team expects him to miss another week. P Xavier Cedeno will come up from the minors to take Detwiler's roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler's next scheduled start is expected to come Sunday, June 2, against the Atlanta Braves. Keep him reserved in the upcoming week in all fantasy leagues. If he does indeed return June 2, and makes it through that outing without aggravating his injury, activate and use him as you normally would.
