Braves | Atlanta signs Ross Detwiler

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 21:06:29 -0700

Free-agent SP Ross Detwiler (Rangers) signed with the Atlanta Braves Friday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will be used out of the bullpen with the Braves, so unless there are injuries that open up a rotation spot, he has no value at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez to remain in rotation

Fri, 29 May 2015 17:03:29 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez will remain in the starting rotation past his start Saturday, May 30. SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will join the bullpen when he is activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has not been dominant in Class AAA but will receive several starts with the Rangers. Owners should see how Gonzalez pitches in a game or two before considering adding him to their roster or using him on FantasyScore.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler to rehab Saturday

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:57:11 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will make a two-inning rehab start for Class AA Frisco Saturday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will need a few more rehab starts most likely if he's being prepared for a return to the starting rotation. He's only worth a roster spot in AL leagues if he's starting, otherwise he's useless to fantasy owners.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez likely to start Saturday

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:39:40 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez is likely to be called up from Class AAA Round Rock to make the start against the Boston Red Sox Saturday, May 30. Gonzalez was the team's first-round draft pick back in 2013, and he'll be making his major league debut. SP Phil Klein, who made two spot starts in the rotation, was optioned to Round Rock Thursday, May 28. SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder), who threw a bullpen session Tuesday, May 26, is unlikely to be ready. Gonzalez is 3-5 with a 4.15 ERA in eight starts in the minors this year, and he's given up four earned runs in his last 16 1/3 innings over three starts. He isn't likely to go over five innings with the Rangers this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez will be very cheap on FantasyScore if he comes up to make his major league debut Saturday against Boston, but he should be ignored everywhere in what's likely to be just one start for the youngster before heading back to the minors.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler throws 'pen

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:53:39 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, May 26, but it's unknown if he'll return to the starting rotation when he's healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is 0-5 on the year and is sporting a 6.95 ERA, so he's strictly an AL-only option for owners just looking for a warm body if he returns to the rotation. You should ignore him at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler to DL

Sun, 17 May 2015 14:35:48 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 17, due to shoulder inflammation.

Fantasy Tip: This may explain why Detwiler ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has been such a horrid pitcher this spring. With an 0-5 record and a 6.95 ERA, Detwiler was close to removal from the rotation. There is no word yet on who will replace Detwiler, but Detwiler can be removed from all leagues.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler struggling

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 04:40:14 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler has a line of 15 earned runs, 25 hits, seven walks and five strikeouts through 12 1/3 innings pitched. He also has given up five home runs.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is on very shaky ground in Texas. Yes, the Rangers rotation is not the best, but changes can and will be made if needed. The best advice is to steer clear of Detwiler, even at that low salary, unless he turns things around.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler wins fourth rotation spot

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 15:07:29 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler was named the fourth starter and will pitch Thursday, April 9, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is likely best left to the late rounds of drafts in AL-only formats. However, there are mixed formats which reward starters who also carry eligibility as a reliever and Detwiler qualifies. Still, he wasn't overly successful pitching out of the rotation through his 69 career starts -- 4.02 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 5.3 K/9. He is nothing more than a lottery ticket for FantasyScore contests in his first start, too.

Rangers | Ross Detwiler in mix for No. 5 job

Sun, 15 Feb 2015 21:12:15 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Ross Detwiler is vying for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, and he will have to contend with SP Nick Tepesch and a host of others in the spring if he wants the job.

Fantasy Tip: Detwiler showed some signs of life last season with the Washington Nationals, but he'll have to hold off Lisalverto Bonilla, Tepesch, Martin Perez and Anthony Ranaudo, among others, if he wants to win the job. FantasyScore owners can check back in at the end of March to see how the battle shakes down.

Thu, 22 Jan 2015 08:57:50 -0800

Texas Rangers SPs Ross Detwiler and Nick Tepesch are considered the leading candidates for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation. Pitching coach Mike Maddux said the competition for that rotation spot is wide open.
