Orioles | No Matt Wieters vs. Oakland

Fri, 06 May 2016 12:31:17 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 6. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats Friday, as he has posted an underwhelming .189/.268/.216 slash line to start the season. However, Wieters hasn't been significantly better with just five runs, a home run, eight RBI and a .234/.300/.313 line. Wieters should be benched and potentially replaced in shallow mixed leagues.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Wed, 04 May 2016 12:05:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, May 4. OF Nolan Reimold draws into the lineup in left field and is batting sixth, while C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold is having a fine year so far (.343, three home runs), and he has seven hits in 20 at-bats, including one home run, against southpaws in 2016. He's certainly one to consider as a low-priced flier in daily formats. Joseph is barely over the Mendoza Line and is a desperation DFS pick.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Sun, 01 May 2016 09:11:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Sunday, May 1. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting ninth. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Nolan Reimold will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting .226 with zero RBI this season and probably can be avoided by most owners. Reimold is 4-for-9 with one home run and three RBI over the last seven days and could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Orioles | Matt Wieters feeling good

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 22:18:32 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters played in the second game in a back-to-back situation for the first time this season Saturday, April 30, against the Chicago White Sox. Manager Buck Showalter reported that Wieters felt good.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters might have felt good physically after the test, but he was hitless in four at-bats to drop his season average to .214. He remains nothing more than a No. 2 catcher option in AL-only fantasy play.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:26:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP John Danks Thursday, April 28. C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and is batting ninth, while OF Nolan Reimold starts again in left field and is hitting seventh. OF Mark Trumbo is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: All Orioles players have some intrigue in Baltimore tonight facing the very hittable Danks. Joseph's daily value is limited while hitting ninth, however. Alvarez is off to a slow start (.186, no home runs) and could be benched regularly against lefties. Pay up for Trumbo tonight.

Orioles | Matt Wieters not starting Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:54:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays. C Caleb Joseph is hitting eighth against Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a normal day off for Wieters, who was the catcher in the Monday game. He has a .239 average in April with only one home run, but you should keep an eye on Wieters for fantasy purposes.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, J.J. Hardy out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:01:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and SS J.J. Hardy are not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, April 24. 3B Manny Machado will start at shortstop, while 2B Ryan Flaherty will start at third base and is batting ninth. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting .250 over his last seven days and could be a cheaper option for owners in two-catcher leagues. Flaherty is hitting only .143 this season and probably should be avoided by owners.

Orioles | Matt Wieters out vs. Royals

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:54:53 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is off to a modest start with eight RBI and a .270/.341/.405 slash line, but you'll want to avoid him in daily contests and replace him where you can in seasonal leagues Friday. Joseph wasn't strong against right-handed pitchers last year with a .226/.301/.382 slash line, so he is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief in daily contests Friday.

Orioles | No Matt Wieters Wednesday

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 12:21:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph does have some pop in his lumber, and Dickey hasn't fooled many with his knuckler so far this year. You could do much worse at catcher with Joseph if you're looking to save some cash in daily formats.

Orioles | Matt Wieters sitting vs. lefty

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:55:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Martin Perez Friday, April 15. C Caleb Joseph is catching and hitting ninth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph had four of his 11 home runs against lefties last year and hit .250. He's one to avoid because of his lineup position in daily games Friday night, but you could do worse as a low-end catching option.
