Orioles | Matt Wieters will not start

Sun, 22 May 2016 11:10:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Sunday, May 22. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph has gone hitless in his last seven at-bats, so owners should look for other players to use in their starting lineups.

Orioles | Matt Wieters hits game-winning homer

Sun, 22 May 2016 00:22:23 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters celebrated his 30th birthday Saturday, May 21, when he hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to give his team a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters lifted his line to .283/.330/.455, and these averages certainly suggest a hitter who should be considered for fantasy purposes. He may occasionally lose a start at catcher to Caleb Joseph, but Wieters certainly is in no danger of losing playing time soon.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Joseph nor Flaherty moves the needle in fantasy against Nathan Karns.

Orioles | Matt Wieters resting Sunday

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:56:45 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Michael Fulmer Sunday, May 15. C Caleb Joseph will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: It's not surprising that Wieters is out of the lineup after catching back-to-back games Friday and Saturday. Joseph is 4-for-14 over the past two weeks after getting off to a slow start but has not driven in a run in 47 at-bats this year and is not a recommended option Sunday.

Orioles | Matt Wieters not playing

Thu, 12 May 2016 11:56:24 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 12. C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Mike Pelfrey.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is a weak-hitting second catcher for the O's who only has nine hits in 43 at-bats (.209) this year. Pelfrey has been a very hittable pitcher this year, but Joseph still profiles as a low-end daily selection at catcher.

Orioles | Two Orioles sitting second game

Sat, 07 May 2016 14:32:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and OF Joey Rickard are out of the lineup for the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, May 7. OF Hyun-soo Kim is hitting second, DH Pedro Alvarez hits sixth and C Caleb Joseph hits ninth.

Fantasy Tip: It's the highest Kim has hit this season, and for good reason, as he's hitting .526 in 19 at-bats. He's a solid low-end option against Jesse Hahn. Alvarez, who has yet to get it going, and Joseph aren't great starts.

Orioles | No Matt Wieters vs. Oakland

Fri, 06 May 2016 12:31:17 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 6. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats Friday, as he has posted an underwhelming .189/.268/.216 slash line to start the season. However, Wieters hasn't been significantly better with just five runs, a home run, eight RBI and a .234/.300/.313 line. Wieters should be benched and potentially replaced in shallow mixed leagues.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Wed, 04 May 2016 12:05:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, May 4. OF Nolan Reimold draws into the lineup in left field and is batting sixth, while C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold is having a fine year so far (.343, three home runs), and he has seven hits in 20 at-bats, including one home run, against southpaws in 2016. He's certainly one to consider as a low-priced flier in daily formats. Joseph is barely over the Mendoza Line and is a desperation DFS pick.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out

Sun, 01 May 2016 09:11:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Sunday, May 1. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting ninth. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Nolan Reimold will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting .226 with zero RBI this season and probably can be avoided by most owners. Reimold is 4-for-9 with one home run and three RBI over the last seven days and could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues.
