Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas said he's lost around 10 pounds this offseason. "I feel a lot lighter on my feet, I feel great when I'm moving around so I'm a lot more agile right now. So I feel good," Moustakas said. He also put in some hard work in the Venezuelan Winter League this offseason, working with hitting coach Pedro Grifol.
Moustakas finished 2013 hitting just .233 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. He said Grifol decided that Moustakas needed to get away from pulling everything to right field. He has focused on making solid contact and going up the middle or the other way during winter ball. Moustakas hit .288 and eight of his 19 hits were doubles in Venezuela. He also received plenty of at-bats against left-handed pitchers, whom he struggled against last year. "My strength is my hands and being able to hit the ball to right field," Moustakas said. "I got in trouble by trying to pull it, I just didn't let it happen. So when I tried to pull it, hips flew, shoulders flew, head flew, and I had no chance at making contact."

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) went 2-for-3 in his return to the lineup Saturday, Aug. 17, but was removed after six innings as a precautionary measure. "He's at 75 percent," manager Ned Yost said. "What happens is, because the muscle is weakened, it starts to get fatigued and a little bit sore. As the game went on, he was starting to get a little bit sore, so we got him out." Moustakas was not in the lineup Sunday, Aug. 18, and Yost said there is a possibility that he could sit out until Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) felt good while taking ground balls before the game Friday, Aug. 16. "It feels good," said Moustakas. "I got to go out and take some ground balls, and I'm ready in case Skip needs me." Moustakas could start sometime this weekend, but a better guess for him is a return Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Moose will be able to avoid a disabled list stint, unless he suffers a setback this weekend. Emilio Bonifacio, who has been playing third base in his absence, will move to a utility infield role when Moustakas is back. Bonifacio has slumped with the bat this year, but his speed makes him an asset in AL-only leagues.

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) remains out of the lineup for the team's doubleheader Friday, Aug. 16, and he will do work on the field so the team can assess his progress.
Fantasy Tip: Moustakas could still land on the disabled list if he doesn't start improving soon. Prepare for that possibility. Emilio Bonifacio's value will increase in the short term if that happens.
