Sun, 24 May 2015 15:03:51 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (clavicle) was back in the lineup Sunday, May 24, the day after being hit in the collarbone by a ball.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should be fine from here on out, but as always monitor his progress in case there are side effects.

Royals | Mike Moustakas leaves early

Sat, 23 May 2015 22:23:33 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (clavicle) took a hopping ground ball from St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina to the collarbone region. Moustakas stayed in the game two more defensive innings and an at-bat before eventually leaving in the fifth inning. He is considered day-to-day and was replaced by 2B/SS Christian Colon.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor Moustakas' status for the Royals' matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, May 24. He currently costs $5,000 (10.0% of cap) on FantasyScore and is an iffy play due to possible soreness or limited range of motion, given his price point. Colon ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) could be low-risk source of cap relief if Moustakas sits out Sunday.

Tue, 19 May 2015 21:36:43 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in seven of his last 10 games and has a .331 batting average so far this season. Moustakas could be a solid starting option at third base for owners on FantasyScore.

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas is back in the starting lineup and is hitting second in the batting order against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Monday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is in the midst of a breakout season. Despite missing the last couple of games while on the bereavement list, he should continue to be a strong play at FantasyScore.

Royals | Mike Moustakas on bereavement list

Fri, 08 May 2015 12:27:20 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas was placed on the bereavement list Friday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: Christian Colon ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) likely will fill in at third base while Moustakas is away. He is hitting .255 during the early part of the season but only has three RBI and may not be a great option on FantasyScore.

Royals | Mike Moustakas using opposite field

Fri, 01 May 2015 11:38:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas, who has been a dead-pull hitter for most of his career, has 15 opposite-field hits this year and having 18 all of 2014. He's currently sporting a slash line of .356/.420/.522 and is excelling in the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Even though it's early in the season and some regression is inevitable, Moustakas ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) seems primed for a breakout year. The No. 2 spot in the order has been great for his resurgence, and it makes him that much more attractive for daily lineups. The fact that he's hitting .359 (14-for-39) with one home run and five RBI against left-handers makes him a daily consideration at FantasyScore, regardless of opponent right now.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has 11 hits, five runs scored and four RBIs in his last five, and he makes a solid mid-range play at FantasyScore right now.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas improved to 11-for-25 (.440) in his career against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber, making him a worthwhile play in FantasyScore at $3,200 (or 6.4% of cap) next time the two have their paths cross.

Royals | Mike Moustakas in for big year?

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 12:07:15 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas focused on hitting the ball the other way this spring, and he hit his first career opposite-field home run on opening day Monday, April 6. Manager Ned Yost and team officials believe Moustakas got so caught up in his slow start in 2014 that it affected the rest of his season. The Royals are batting Moustakas second this year to keep him from fighting himself at the plate. Moustakas became more patient as his at-bats went on Monday, which was a point of emphasis for him in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) could turn into a real nice value pick in deep mixed leagues and AL-only leagues as a corner infielder if he can carry over his fine postseason performance from last year into this season. You'll want to avoid him Wednesday against Chicago White Sox starter Jose Quintana at FantasyScore, though.
