Royals | Mike Moustakas gets night off

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:20:51 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (rest) is not starting Monday, May 2. 2B Christian Colon is in his place at third base and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: In the past, Moustakas would regularly sit with a lefty on the hill, as he hit below .200 opposite southpaws pretty much every season up until a couple of years ago. That's not the case anymore, but regardless, Colon is getting a rare start with Moose on the bench. Daily owners can quickly overlook him, as the 27-year-old backup doesn't offer potential in any formats.

Royals | Mike Moustakas showing some pop

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:08:33 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 22, and he has three doubles and three home runs over his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas hit a career-high 22 homers last year, and he already has six after 15 games. With his power starting to come around, he is worth owning in all but the shallowest of leagues.

Royals | Mike Moustakas returns to lineup

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 12:03:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (hamstring) will start at third base and bat second against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas is only 2-for-9 in his career against Gray and is hitless in his last two games. There are better starting options at third base today.

Royals | Mike Moustakas not in lineup

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 16:22:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Rich Hill Friday, April 15. 2B Omar Infante moves up to the two-hole, while 2B Christian Colon is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Infante is off to a .310 start (9-for-29) with three doubles, but even with a move all the way up the batting order, he remains a low-end second base option in daily formats. Colon should be ignored everywhere.

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 05:31:38 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (hamstring) may sit out Friday, April 15, with a slight hamstring issue.

Fantasy Tip: Moose has hit safely in six of the last seven games and is a midrange option at the position whenever he's in there.

Royals | Mike Moustakas likely to bat second

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 08:53:15 -0800

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas and OF Alex Gordon continue to battle for the No. 2 spot in the batting order during spring training. However, manager Ned Yost admitted that Moustakas "probably" has the edge in the composition.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas hit .280 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 364 at-bats out of the No. 2 hole last season, while Gordon hit .371 with a home run and nine RBIs in 35 at-bats. The loser of the competition will hit sixth in the batting order.

Royals | Mike Moustakas financial breakdown

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 08:54:55 -0800

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas will earn $5.6 million this year and $8.7 million in 2017 as part of his two-year, $14.3 million to avoid salary arbitration Friday, Feb. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas has matured at the plate and uses the entire field now with increasing power across the board. He's also improved against left-handers and could approach 30 homers in a perfect season. Moustakas could come at a discount, too, so pounce if that comes to fruition in your draft.

Royals | Mike Moustakas terms

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 08:06:13 -0800

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas' two-year deal is worth $14.3 million. The deal bought out the two arbitration years he had remaining.

Fantasy Tip: Moose took a big step in 2015 with a .284-22-82 line. He'll be among the top third basemen to grab after the top few have been selected.

Royals | New deal for Mike Moustakas

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 19:53:27 -0800

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas avoided arbitration by agreeing on a two-year deal, the team announced Thursday, Feb. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas is coming off a solid all-around season at the plate, and after the top options at the position are off the board, he should provide an effective alternative at the hot corner.

Royals | No. 2 spot in KC lineup up for grabs

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 08:23:49 -0800

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas and OF Alex Gordon are the two most likely candidates to bat second in the team's batting order this season, according to manager Ned Yost. The player that does not win the competition for the No. 2 spot will wind up batting sixth, behind OF Lorenzo Cain, 1B Eric Hosmer and DH Kendrys Morales.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas hit .280 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 408 at-bats as the No. 2 hitter in 2015, while Gordon hit .371 with one home run and seven RBIs in 35 at-bats in that spot. Don't be surprised if the left-handed-hitting Moustakas occupies the spot versus right-handers, while the right-handed-hitting Gordon does the same against southpaws. Both players make solid starting options in all fantasy formats.
