The Tampa Bay Rays announced Saturday, May 18, that SP Jake Odorizzi will be recalled from Triple-A Durham to start Monday, May 20, against the Toronto Blue Jays in place of the injured SP David Price (triceps).

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn't think SP David Price (triceps) will miss more than two or three starts, and he isn't concerned about his long-term standing.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Price owners, as he shouldn't be out for more than two weeks. However, that means whoever takes Price's rotation spot -- Chris Archer or Jake Odorizzi -- will be around only for the short term. They probably won't deserve consideration past AL-only leagues for that reason.

The Tampa Bay Rays placed SP David Price (triceps) on the 15-day disabled list with a left triceps strain Thursday, May 16, and recalled SP Alexander Torres from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Torres could be used to help out in the bullpen in the meantime, so Chris Archer remains a candidate to come up to start Monday and for however long Price is out. Jake Odorizzi pitched Wednesday, so he's on turn, but he pitched poorly in his outing. Archer is the best bet to fill the vacant rotation spot for the short term, and he'll be a popular waiver wire target in AL-only leagues. He's worth a look in deep mixed formats, as well, depending on the matchups.

Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price (triceps) was diagnosed with a strained left triceps muscle and is likely to miss his next scheduled start Monday, May 20. Price will be re-evaluated Thursday, May 16. "It just felt (like) tightness," Price said. "It wasn't like excruciating pain, but I've never felt anything like that before. My gut feeling, I feel OK right now. I don't think it's too bad."

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear at this point if Price's triceps ailment will cause him to miss more than one turn in the rotation. Meanwhile, Alexander Torres, Chris Archer and Jake Odorizzi are all options to come up from Triple-A Durham to fill in for price. If it's just a spot start, Torres probably makes the most sense. If not, Archer is a good speculation in cavernous mixed leagues and AL-only formats.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said Wednesday, May 15, that an MRI on the left triceps of SP David Price (triceps) showed "nothing serious, but we'll make a better call tomorrow."

Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price (allergies) received eye drops Tuesday, May 14, because he has been dealing with allergies lately that have stemmed from laundry chemicals. Price said he struggled to see the signs from the catcher.

Fantasy Tip: Price's eyes could have had an effect on his most recent start, but it's not the sole reason for his slow start. Expect Price to rebound from his rough April. Don't panic and sell low on him.

The Tampa Bay Rays will likely listen to offers for SP David Price at the trading deadline if they are out of contention by then. "Let's say they're right about .500 at the All-Star break," said an executive. "If there's one team, and one front office, in one market where they just might say, 'We're not good enough to win it this year,' and deal him, they're that team."

Tampa Bay Rays SPs David Price, Matt Moore and Jeremy Hellickson were fined an undisclosed amount for using social media to criticize an umpire over the weekend. Umpire Tom Hallion was also fined. Price was fined $1,000, and believes everyone else was fined the same.
