Tigers | David Price dominant Friday

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 15:36:43 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price allowed four hits in eight innings while striking out nine and walking just two in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Price ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) has not allowed a run in 14 1/3 innings to start the 2015 season, and he's fanned 11 hitters. He is a strong FantasyScore option almost every time out, especially with a strong offense backing him.

Tigers | David Price on the hill Friday

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 21:40:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price is expected to start against the Chicago White Sox Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Price ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) hasn't allowed an earned run through two starts this season, and the White Sox are off to a slow start offensively, hitting .230 as a team and ranking 24th in runs scored. There is potential for a big game from Price, but he isn't a must-start option at FantasyScore at his high price tag on a night when there are plenty of options available.

Tigers | David Price on scoreless streak

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 21:43:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price will start Friday, April 17, against the Chicago White Sox. He takes a 21 ⅔ regular season scoreless inning streak into the game. He hasn't allowed a run in his past three regular season starts.

Fantasy Tip: Price has been right lately for FantasyScore owners at $8,900 (or 17.8% of cap). He has also been right at Comerica Park, too, going 7-2 with a 2.89 ERA in 12 career appearances (10 starts), so shell out the big bumps for him Friday.

Tigers | David Price not close on extension

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 15:14:26 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price is not close to signing a contract extension, and the two sides are "apart", according to sources. Price has said he has an interest in staying in Detroit, and he has suggested he is willing to continue negotiations into the beginning of the season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Price ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) draws an underrated Minnesota Twins lineup on opening day, as Minny socred the seven most runs in baseball last season. Still Price is a lineup building block and worth considering for FantasyScore contests whenever he takes the mound. In seasonal leagues, he is a high-end fantasy ace and has averaged 15 wins and 207 strikeouts with a 3.08 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP over the past five seasons.

Tigers | David Price beginning contract talks?

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:04:35 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price and his agent have started contract talks with the team, but no numbers have been discussed at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Price will start on opening day against the Minnesota Twins. Even at a high FantasyScore salary ($8,100, 16.2% of cap), the matchup against the Twins is favorable and one you should look to take advantage of.

Tigers | David Price to start opener

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 07:41:09 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price was named the Opening Day starter Monday, April 6, against the Minnesota Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Price ($8,100; 16.2% of your cap) will have a great matchup on FantasyScore. His velocity declined a bit last year, but he is still one of the best pitchers in fantasy. He's an elite SP1 for the opener.

Tigers | David Price improved curve ball

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 11:41:35 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP David Price allowed nine home runs and a .720 OPS on his curve ball in the last two seasons after dominating with his curve as recently as 2012. As a result, Price's curve-ball usage dropped to a career-low 5.6% in 2014, down from 11.5% in 2013. Price worked on the pitch in the offseason, and he feels he has improved it. A new grip on the pitch has allowed Price to have better command and throw it at varying speeds. "I understood it when I was out there on the mound, what I needed to do: attacking different hitters and changing speeds, being able to do stuff that way. Trying to get that ground ball when I needed that ground ball. And just understanding different situations on the mound. I feel like I've taken big steps in all those categories. And it makes pitching so much easier," Price said.

Fantasy Tip: You can't go wrong selecting Price as your fantasy ace in the early rounds of drafts. The news about his curve ball is particularly encouraging, as well, and makes an investment in him even more sound.

Tigers | David Price has not had extension talks

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 07:52:17 -0800

Detroit Tigers SP David Price said he has not had any contract extension talks with the Tigers at this point but is willing to discuss an extension during the season. Price continues to say he is willing to sign a long-term deal with the Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Price is open to talking during the season, so negotiations between the two sides could linger for a long time. Price has been one of the better fantasy pitchers over the last few seasons and should be one again this season. He should be selected in one of the early rounds in drafts as a No. 1 or No. 2 starting pitcher.

Tigers | David Price debuts new curveball

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 12:40:48 -0800

Detroit Tigers SP David Price debuted his new curveball grip Friday, March 6. He learned the pitch from Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray while training this offseason at Vanderbilt University.

Fantasy Tip: Last season, Gray's curveball (16.9 runs above average) was the third best in baseball, according to FanGraphs.com. While Price still ranked 21st in the league, any improvements in his arsenal only helps his already high-end fantasy stock. Price's five-year averages go to the tune of 15 wins, 3.08 ERA, 1.12 WHIP with 207 strikeouts. In his age-29 season, expect more of the same from Price, and he is a viable fantasy ace to build your fake rotation around.
