Cubs | Starlin Castro not in lineup

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 17:49:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Tommy La Stella will replace Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) at second base, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Dodgers | Mat Latos scheduled to start Saturday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:01:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos threw a simulated game in Arizona Monday, Aug. 24, to prepare for his start Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: It's definitely not the ideal time to return for Latos ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) as far as his FantasyScore prospects go. The Cubbies are ranked third in OPS (.844) in the month of August. It'd be wise to look in another direction than Latos Saturday.

Dodgers | Mat Latos to be skipped

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 20:13:19 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers will skip SP Mat Latos' next turn in the rotation, and he will spend the next 10 days or so in the bullpen. SP Alex Wood is set to start Wednesday, Aug. 19, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players can forget about Latos ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) until he can officially return to the rotation and shake off any potential rust.

Dodgers | Mat Latos struggles again

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 04:51:56 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos gave up five runsm four of which were earned, and he also allowed seven hits in 4 2/3 innings of work in a 10-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, Aug. 13. He struck out seven and walked one.

Fantasy Tip: It is those all over the place numbers that have made Latos ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) a risky bet in FantasyScore this season. Latos dropped to 4-9 with this latest setback, and he has been inconsistent enough that you should look elsewhere for pitching help.

Dodgers | Mat Latos roughed up

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 17:34:11 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos allowed six runs on seven hits over four innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: His second start with the Dodgers didn't go nearly as well as his first, and until he proves otherwise, Latos ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is going to be tough to trust at FantasyScore from one start to the next.

Dodgers | Mat Latos solid for new team

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 17:35:53 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos made his first start since being acquired from the Miami Marlins, allowing one run on four hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) entered the start with a 2.44 ERA away from Marlins Park, so he could benefit from the change of scenery in a big way. He could end up being a solid value play at FantasyScore the rest of the way.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

Dodgers | Jose Peraza in proposed deal

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:45:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jose Peraza is included in the proposed deal with SP Alex Wood, RP Jim Johnson and RP Luis Avilan headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Miami Marlins would send SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers as well. The Marlins would receive P Jeff Brigham, P Victor Araujo and P Kevin Guzman. The Braves would receive RP Paco Rodriguez and 2B Hector Olivera.

Fantasy Tip: The deal is still pending because of physicals. Peraza probably doesn't have a role with the Dodgers this season, but he's a dynasty league commodity. Jim Johnson would lose much of his fantasy value as a setup man in LA. Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be the front runner to close in Atlanta if the deal goes through.
