White Sox | Mat Latos financials

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 11:38:56 -0800

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal Tuesday, Feb. 9, according to a major league source. Latos went 4-10 with a 4.95 ERA with the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 24 outings last year.

Fantasy Tip: Latos is likely to be in competition with the likes of John Danks, Erik Johnson and Jacob Turner for a final spot in the starting rotation. Latos could win it on experience alone. Injuries have hurt him the last two seasons, so a bounce-back season could be on the horizon, but a move to a hitter-friendly park will draw most fantasy owners away.

White Sox | Mat Latos joining Chicago

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 10:58:39 -0800

Free-agent SP Mat Latos (Dodgers) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Latos figures to compete for a starting rotation spot this spring. The move to U.S. Cellular Field -- more of a hitter's haven -- isn't ideal for Latos, though. Injuries have dragged him down the last two years, too. If he wins a rotation spot he's worth a gamble as a late-rounder in deep mixed leagues.

MLB | Mat Latos difficult to work with?

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 13:33:51 -0800

Free-agent SP Mat Latos (Dodgers) may be having trouble signing with a club because of attitude issues, sources speculate.

Fantasy Tip: The fact he went from the Cincinnati Reds to the Miami Marlins and eventually the Los Angeles Dodgers in one season is certainly a question mark. As to how it effects your drafting of Latos, he should be considered for later rounds only. There are better pitchers in front of him.

MLB | Mat Latos drawing interest

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 10:16:10 -0800

Free-agent SP Mat Latos (Angels) is drawing interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. Latos is likely looking to re-establish himself with a one-year deal. One baseball source Latos is coveted by Orioles executive Dan Duquette.

Fantasy Tip: Latos had a disastrous 2015 season and bounced around to three teams, finishing with a 4.95 ERA in 21 starts. Injuries early in the year with Miami hampered him, and he never was able to get back on track. If healthy and in the right situation he could rebound, but he's obviously nothing more than a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues for now.

Angels | Mat Latos signs with Angels

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 16:34:04 -0700

Free-agent SP Mat Latos (Dodgers) signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Latos' role with the Angels is uncertain at this point, but the team is dealing with a rash of injuries to their pitching staff, so he is a valuable add for their playoff drive. Latos is a desperation grab in seasonal leagues, but he could start or pitch in high-leverage situations out of the bullpen, so there could be sneaky value.

MLB | Mat Latos released by Dodgers

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 15:19:17 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos (neck) was released Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Latos was designated for assignment Thursday, Sept. 17, and essentially lost all seasonal fantasy value at that point. Outside of cavernous keeper/dynasty formats, Latos doesn't warrant a roster spot.

Dodgers | Mat Latos cut

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 18:29:46 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated SP Mat Latos for assignment. In a corresponding move, P Carlos Frias (back) was activated from the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Since being acquired from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline, Latos ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) went 0-3 with a 6.66 ERA in six appearances, five of which were starts. He should be dropped in all fantasy formats.

Dodgers | Mat Latos throws Friday

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 18:41:12 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos (neck) threw off the bullpen mound Friday, Sept. 11, two days after he had been scratched from a start due to neck stiffness.

Fantasy Tip: Despite being 0-2 with a 6.56 ERA through five starts with the club, Latos ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) remains in the mix to serve as the No. 5 starter, according to manager Don Mattingly. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him for the foreseeable future.

Dodgers | Mat Latos scratched Wednesday

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:34:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos (neck) was scratched from his start Wednesday, Sept. 9, with a stiff neck. SP Joe Wieland will start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Wieland ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) isn't a smart last-minute switch for your second pitching spot on FantasyScore, even against a Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim team that has struggled to score runs in the past month. Stacking some of the safer Halos hitters against Wieland is a good daily strategy tonight.

Dodgers | Mat Latos to start Wednesday

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 21:26:52 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos will start Wednesday, Sept. 9, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Latos ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) made his debut against the Angels Aug. 2 and allowed just one run with four hits over six innings in a no-decision. At a mid-level price he isn't a terrible FantasyScore option, but keep in mind he hasn't won in five tries with the Dodgers since coming over from the Marlins in a deadline deal.
