Fifteen modern-day finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame were announced Saturday, Jan. 7, and they are joined by two senior nominees. A selection committee in Indianapolis will meet in Indianapolis Feb. 4 to determine the 2012 Hall of Fame class. NFL | A. Williams Could Continue Playing

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports veteran free agent CB Aeneas Williams (Rams) has not made a retirement announcement during the offseason and will consider returning to the NFL after an injury-riddled season with the St. Louis Rams in 2004. "I think he's keeping his options open, maybe for the right situation," Williams' agent Eugene Parker said. "I think he would consider (playing) He's in shape. He's just taking his time and keeping his options open. ... He's not quick to make decisions. He's pretty thoughtful." The Rams expressed no interest in re-signing Williams during the past offseason.

Kathleen Nelson, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams S Aeneas Williams (shoulder) has yet to inform the team of his future plans. He finished up the 2004 season on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury. There is a chance that even if Williams wants to continue playing, he may not be able to pass the team's physical.

St. Louis Rams S Aeneas Williams (neck) is eligible for free agency, according to Nick Wagoner of StLouisRams.com. However, his status for next season is uncertain. Williams has an arthritic problem in his neck, and could end up retiring if it is unable to heal with an offseason of rest.

Williams was scheduled to see a specialist early this week, and his status is uncertain - not just for Week 15, but for the rest of the season. Williams has been reduced to work in the team's nickel and dime package the past three games.

Williams underwent an MRI Tuesday, Nov. 30. If he plays against in Week 13, it almost certainly will be just in a nickel and dime back role.

StLouisRams.com reports St. Louis Rams FS Aeneas Williams has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 10 tackles, two interceptions – one of which he returned for a touchdown – one sack and two passes defended Monday, Dec. 8, against the Cleveland Browns. It was the second consecutive week that a Rams' defender took home the honor, with DL Leonard Little winning the award in Week 13.

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams CB Aeneas Williams, who has been playing free safety, will move back to cornerback when FS Jason Sehorn makes his expected return for the Monday, Oct. 13, game against the Atlanta Falcons. "At this point (Jason will) be our free safety and we'll probably move Aeneas out to corner," Rams head coach Mike Martz said Monday, Sept. 29. "That's kind of what we've discussed, and we'll just see how Jason is back there."

Updating previous reports, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz has decided to sit CB Aeneas Williams (leg/ankle) for the rest of the preseason. "I'm going to keep Aeneas out, probably for the rest of the preseason," Martz said. "Can he practice? Yeah, he can practice. But I think he's got some soreness down there. He could go through it and probably be OK, but it's not worth it."

He said he's about 85 percent recovered. After being used sparingly on Friday, Williams received more work on Saturday and plans to go through a regular workout during Sunday's minicamp action.

The Post-Dispatch reports the two-year contract signed by CB Aeneas Williams with the St. Louis Rams is worth $5 million, but it includes performance-based incentives that could raise the total value of the deal to $6.5 million. Williams gets a $1 million signing bonus, and base salaries of $2 million in both the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He is due a $1 million roster bonus if he makes the Pro Bowl next season, and a $500,000 bonus if he is named NFL defensive player of the year next season.
