Rays | Steve Souza out of the lineup

Fri, 27 May 2016 12:25:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Friday, May 27. OF Brandon Guyer will start in right field, while OF Corey Dickerson will start in left field. 1B Steve Pearce will serve as the designated hitter, while INF Taylor Motter will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Motter has received playing time at multiple positons since being recalled but is hitting only .222 in eight games. He does have two home runs and four RBI during that span, which makes him a sleeper starting candidate for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Guyer, Dickerson and Pearce are good options to be used in daily leagues.

Rays | Another multi-hit game for Steve Pearce

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:00:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B/2B Steve Pearce went 2-for-4 on Sunday, May 22, against the Detroit Tigers, logging his seventh two-hit game in 14 tries this month.

Fantasy Tip: Time is running out for owners to snag Pearce off the waiver wire, as he is batting .353 in May. His .312 average, seven homers and 18 RBI are certainly playable at first base in fantasy, but it is his second-base eligibility in most leagues that will make him a difference-maker. Pearce has been batting cleanup in the middle of the order on a regular basis for an underrated Tampa Bay offense for a while now and finally looks primed to deliver on the talent that once made him a top prospect around 10 years ago.

Rays | Three Rays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Taylor Motter starts at the 6 and is hitting second, OF Brandon Guyer is the designated hitter and is hitting leadoff, while SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Motter hit his first big league homer last night but is a low-end middle infield option in daily setups, even while hitting in the two-hole. Beckham has a similar profile to Motter but is even less attractive at the bottom of the order. Guyer is your value pick of the trio, as he's been seeing starts on a regular basis and is hitting .313 with three home runs and nine RBI this month.

Rays | Steve Pearce batting fourth Tuesday

Tue, 17 May 2016 12:50:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Steve Pearce is hitting fourth in the lineup Tuesday, May 17, against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is on a tear at the plate, and the team is taking advantage of it. Pearce is .318-3-7 in the past week, but in the No. 4 spot he is 14-for-40 (.350) with five home runs and 12 runs batted in for the entire season. For whatever reason, Pearce's power numbers spike in this role, and as long as the team considers him a cleanup threat then you should add him onto your roster.

Rays | Steve Pearce homers Monday

Mon, 16 May 2016 21:20:10 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays Monday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has recorded seven hits and seven RBI in his last six games and should continue to receive starts for the time being. Owners in deeper mixed leagues can see Pearce as a short-term option for their team.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:01:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ Monday, May 16. SS Taylor Motter is starting at the 6 and is in the two-hole, while OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. 1B Steve Pearce is at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Happ has pitched excellent this year, so it's a tough draw for the Tampa hitters Monday night. Guyer (.351/.444/.703 this month) and Pearce do have sleeper appeal, though, and both are in great lineups spots to return some value. Motter was hitting only .190 with four home runs and 10 RBI at Class AAA Durham before being called up, so he's a desperation daily play.

Rays | Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison out

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:22:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Rich Hill Friday, May 13. OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff, while 1B Steve Pearce is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer has played considerably well (.345/.472/.517) with two home runs and four RBI in limited playing time off the bench and could see more time if Desmond Jennings continues to struggle. Guyer is a decent value play in daily contests and is worth a look as a pickup in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if he continues to play every day. Pearce has some pop and has four of his five homers off lefties, making him an acceptable sleeper pick in DFS, as well.

Rays | Steve Pearce draws another start

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:11:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce is hitting seventh Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Fresh off of the two homers last night, Pearce is a decent lower-middle option in DFS against Taijuan Walker. It's his third start in the last four games, and his .295-5-11 line figures to keep him in the lineup more often.

Rays | Steve Pearce sends two out

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:10:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce hit two home runs Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is quietly having a fine season with a .295-5-11 line. All five of his homers have come in his last nine games, and he's a lower-middle consideration in DFS.

Rays | Steve Pearce gets night off

Mon, 09 May 2016 15:41:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (rest) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 9, versus Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez. 1B Logan Morrison is in his place at first base batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Talk about throwing a struggling player to the wolves. Morrison has been as bad as any player this year at the plate, as he's recorded just eight hits in 70 total at-bats, good for a .114 batting average. Now he has to face The King in front of his court. Pearce is obviously the better player to own right now, but he's more of an option for the deepest formats.
